mine would have to be episode 167 and a few afterwards(the kyuubi cloak naruto vs pein) it always seems to me to look like pains made out of some weird rubber and what happens during the fight is to childish it comes off as very disneyish

omg there are so many badly animated episodes in my opinion...I'd have to say the worst ones would be the period after they reunited with Sasuke the first time

You should have said anything other than 167, because everyone already knows it will take the cake for worst everytime :)

This ^ is indeed terrible animation. :(
There are plenty of similar examples, sometimes I wonder whether the animators are the ones who have made those episodes or not. -_-

I actually loved 167. As an animator myself I understand what they aimed for.
It was focused on exaggeration as the battle and intensity increased and I applaud them for taking the risk and trying a different form.of animation.
Believe it or not those so called "retarded" faces take a lot of effort :)

For me one of the recent worst episodes was Gai vs Kisame. That episode clearly had little budget and effort applied and it showed.
They couldn't even match the detail of the manga, you had blobs for sharks and a tiger that looked like a polar bear. On top of that it was split across the end of an episode and the start of another.

off topic but best episode for me were a mix of the following:
-Sasuke vs naruto (kid series)
-certain parts of kakashi vs kakuza+hidan
-first half of sasuke vs itachi
-Sasuke vs killerbee (omg at that fluidity!)
-First half of Sasuke vs Danzo
-Minato + kushina flashback

lol i agree completely. I appreciate episode 167 a lot because of how unique and bizarre the animation is. It really gave a strong sense of speed that is rarely seen in naruto animation. It's similar to some episodes where naruto faces sasuke at the valley, I also liked that battle a lot.

And as for crappy animation, basically any episode filled with unnecessarily long running scenes and characters talking whilst only moving their mouth.

100% agree with you, especially the one in bold. That episode was literally 90% fighting with amazing graphics and animation. In particular, the sword battle between Bee and Sasuke was so epic and intense.

Thank you this is exactly what I wanted to say. 167 is one of my favorite episodes in the series. Who cares if 15 seconds of the episode are stretchy faces, the rest of the episode is just pure craziness. And I agree with the rest of your list. Minato's flashback was the best IMO because it wasn't just good, it was consistent.

IMO there are a lot of badly animated episodes but I think the worst had to be Naruto+Bee vs Itachi+Nagato. People complain about 167 but I'd choose that animation over the one for this fight any day. They were just so stiff and had so little detail it looked terrible. I imagined it being so much more intense in the manga

Except for this part:

This scene was actually quite funny because it came out of nowhere. It only lasted for about ten seconds, yet despite the terrible graphics, I thought the animators did a great job in conveying to us how fearsome the Nine Tails was.

That's not terrible graphics in the sense that they can't draw or animate. It was intentional to resemble traditional paintings in Japan. I can't remember the exact word but something like Calligraphy (Big Quill/brush on a scroll).

EDIT: I used the term calligraphy which is incorrect (that.s focused on lettering).
Think of the game, Okami, that was done to represent the painting style too :)

EDIT2: I thinks it called Ukiyo-e (the art style)
