Why do people fight so hard against One Piece being the best selling manga? I keep seeing the excuse ( on various forums) that Naruto

outsells One Piece in America so while Japan loves One Piece that's just them them. Well sorry to

burst those who use that but compared to Japan the manga market in america( and the rest of the world) is very small.

If you want to claim Naruto is the most popular the most you should say in the Western world where Naruto probably

does have better sales ( though too small to make dents on One Piece's popularity) and stop using a definition of "worldwide" popularity that

discounts the largest markets and most other Asian countries. Being popular in the countries

you tend to care about aka the western ones is not worldwide.

Agreed, those sales are only form asian countries and not from the entire world, many people i know dont like one piece and have higher regards for naruto.

With what proof? I know what...none.
The only solid proof we have in comparison between the two are the sales that Shonen Jump releases of their best selling manga and only DBZ has comparable sales.

I'm not stating which is a better manga or that you should read it. I just get annoyed when I see baseless assumptions about One Piece that are used in an attempt to discredits its achievement. Whether certain fans like it or not it's Shonen Jump's biggest manga with DBZ.

Since most major free manga reading sites (mangafox, mangahere, mangapanda, etc) rank naruto as number 1 most popular, we can agree that a lot of people already read Naruto for free, more than buy the manga volumes itself.

The problem is that those sites that you use are mostly " English " or "western" sites. They don't grasp the full popularity as OP and Naruto have different points that are more liked by various type of people with the western world in Naruto's case but not necessarily as much as the rest.

I wish Naruto took a more stealthy ninja - like , death note intelligence level of manga / anime ..
They should have made more specials for the Anime and added more serious ness to the manga when it comes to
character minds and dialogue. Some shinobi act like they never heard of the term shinobi. Its like wtf?! I think both of these series have a lot to offer to fans though. Readers apparently love something about each. I love the story and the characters of Naruto. I love the Ost for some of it. The Ost changed though and I don't like it too much.

Well they have merit for being the most popular manga reading websites in the world and can be accessed internationally. If you combine these sites viewers alone and compare it with the less popular but more diverse sites that offer mangas in different language translations, I'm pretty sure that the audience is still bigger on this so called english/western websites. If we're talking about sheer volume, Naruto is still more popular than one piece. However it doesn't mean it is superior since both manga has both ups and downs.Also, I'm pretty sure most of us have heard of Naruto first, before coming across with one piece, which is a clear indication of popularity.

Once again all of that is based on nothing but assumption. China represents 20% of the world's population yet in your calculation of which is more popular they are being discounted as we have no way to calculate all these. Saying Naruto is the most popular Manga in the West is fine by me but using Worldwide when no one knows and the only figures we have that are " Reliable " state One Piece is in fact. We can go on assumptions all our lives to try and make our fav number 1 but facts are facts and that wont change.
