Don't underestimate the rinnegan. It was said to be able to bring fourth any ninjutsu. Madara knows a lot more about yin and Yang than Nagato did, and he knows more about jutsus and the ninja world in general. Plus, it was not Nagato's eye to begin with. Therefore Madara may be able to use jutsus with the rinnegan that we have never seen before. He already kind of did that when he had brought down those meteors (although that may have been a large scale application of bansho tenin). We had also never seen Nagato use those chakara chains that Obito used (which is a jutsu of the outer path). These two jutsus that I just mentioned prove that the rinnegan is probably capable of more than what we have seen, and that Nagato did not show us the rinnegan's full power.
Now to address Obito's defeat: Yes Obito had the rinnegan and still lost, but he barely used the rinnegan at all! All he ever used was the outer path (and outer path is more so supplementary than it is offensive). Therefore Obito's defeat can not be classified as weakness of the rinnegan. As for your statement that the juubi was stronger than the rinnegan and the juubi got defeated, I say this: If Obito had used the rinnegan while being the 10 tails jinchuuriki in addition to onmydon and shinju wood techniques, the battle may have had a different outcome (if it weren't for the fact that plot necessitates Naruto to win due to being the main character). However, Obito was stupid and only stuck to onmydon (except when he used those tailed beast bombs). In fact, Obito has always had a problem with spamming ever since he awakened MS. Before he became a jinchuuriki it was Kamui that he spammed without regarding his other techniques like wood or fire style. After becoming a jinchuuriki, it changed to onmyodon since he couldn't use Kamui. When you continuously spam one jutsu instead of mixing things up, your opponents are eventually going to figure out your technique's weakness. Thus, Naruto and company were able to figure out that senjutsu was the weakness to onmyodon. Obito knew that they figured this out, but he still continued to spam onmyodon. This stupidity led to Obito's downfall. Had Obito used rinnegan, things would have been different. Therefore it is Obito's stupidity that made him lose, not weakness of the rinnegan or weakness of the juubi.
Furthermore, Hagaromo Ootsutsuki defeated the juubi. Now it is true that we don't know whether he was born with the rinnegan, whether he awakened it at some random point or whether he got it after becoming the juubi jinchuuriki. However, since Kaguya had Hagoromo some time after eating the fruit (which contained the juubi's power) it is possible that Hagoromo may have been born with the rinnegan or awakened it at some point before fighting the juubi. If this is the case, that means that the juubi would have been defeated by the power of the rinnegan. Therefore, the rinnegan can be even stronger than the juubi depending on how the user uses it. Hagoromo was stated to have mastered the rinnegan. Conversely, Obito clearly sucked with it because he barely used it. It all just depends on the user. Therefore, you can't really just say world > rinnegan.
In conclusion: Don't underestimate the rinnegan.
