Gaming addiction can be just as dangerous as any other type of addiction — and not only to the addicted, but to their loved ones as well. We saw one couple go so far as to sell their children to buy in-app purchases and now another couple has gone off the deep end as well. According to a press release from the Orange Country District Attorney, Lester Louis Huffmire and his wife Petra Huffmire were convicted after police discovered they had been keeping the two children they were responsible for locked in a mobile home without appropriate provisions for three years while they played World of Warcraft. The description of the trailer sounds like something out of a horror movie.

“Between May 21, 2010, and May 20, 2013, the defendants kept the mobile park home unsanitary and uninhabitable, including kitchen appliances covered in mold and cobwebs, stacks of trash, debris, mold, and feces throughout the home, a pile of used condoms under a stuffed teddy bear, and inoperable toilets.”

While the children lived in these miserable conditions, the unemployed adults played World of Warcraft nonstop. During this stretch, the children never once attended school.

Three years later after this had begun, a neighbor finally called the police. The children were found “with dirt crusted on their feet, matted hair, damaged teeth beyond repair, and malnourished.” The Huffmires both pleaded guilty — Lester Huffmire was sentenced to five years in state prison and Petra Huffmire was sentenced to three years and four months.

I'm honestly shocked by this.

WoW is truly addictive. I know from experience.

Back in the TBC days, I would play up to 20 hours a day, and that continued for 3 months. I couldn't stop.

I've been playing WoW since 2006, working on getting full Prideful gear for my Ret Paladin now. My 6th max char this expansion.

The game is fun and addicting, but to go this far is... beyond ridiculous.

As a WoW player, you can´t blame this to WoW.

WoW is a thing and game addiction is another thing. And addictions are never good, no matter which kind of addictions.

The fact that this happened is due to the parents not having their limitation. In China this is very common: A lot of parents prefer gaming over taking care of their children.

If you play WoW, in the loading screen it will give you tips and one of them was "Remember to take all things into moderation (even World of Warcraft)"

Back when I was playing TBC, i was playing up to 20 hours a day for 3 months.

Things got real ugly. I had to delete all my characters.
