Wood release

Wood release counts as a kekkei genkai (which is a bloodline limit and is passed on through the family for anyone who strangely doesn't know) and yet it isn't passed down through the senju family. Don't you think it is strange this works out. As much as I like the wood release style I don't think it should be counted as a kekkei genkei. I think its more of trait that only one person has managed to do naturally.

Hmm possibly. I would've liked the senju to have survived so we can find out more about them

Well, KKG's can be rare, even among the clan that possesses that certain KKG. Take Kimimaro's clan for example, he seemed to be the only one that possessed it out of all the clan members and was even locked up just for having it. Wood Release is probably even rarer than Bone Release, but I doubt Hashi is the first one to ever possess it though.

Itama Senju had earth release...
Tobirama Senju had water release.
and Hashirama Senju had water and earth release allowing him access to the kg Wood release

The Senju are a clan that specialize in different things.
That's what made them so powerful.
They had a verity of moves while other clans only focused on a certain things.

Rinnegan and Gedo mazo are two different things far from Mokuton.
Rinnegan is it's own thing. Madara just needed Senju DNA to get Rinnegan.
He got Hashirama's Bloodline as a bonus.
