The funny thing is that they actually approached her for the role. It went to Gal Gadot. Gal and Gina were both up for the member of Zod's army and Gina took that. That's why Gal Godot is Wonder Woman now.

It makes no sense tho, because if the roles were switched the performances would have been 10000% better and smooth.

That's just how it went. DC was open casting for everything all at once. Gina accepted the role and when Gal Godot turned it down they offered her wonder woman.
