This is a silly debate. No, we're not equal. Not physically, not mentally, not in any way. Men and Women are built differently in both body and mind for a reason - that's how nature is. On top of it all, we have the whole 'rights' equality thing. Men have rights that Women don't. Similarly, but rarely touched upon, is the fact that Women have some rights that Men don't.

If you want to be equal, you have to fix both sides. These "Feminists" who say they're striving for equality, but only focus on the problems of the Women, are just silly. That's not bringing Women up to be on-par with Men. That's raising Women up on a pedestal and leaving Men down in the dirt.

On a side-note, and of course this is coming from my own experiences, but; I've seen many Women use their gender to their advantage, anything from the whole "Ladies first" rule, to getting a guy to carry stuff for her. I've also heard Women asking Men to do things for them simply because "They're men. They're stronger" or something along those lines. Based upon things like this, I can't help but think that half the time, the inequality is caused at least partially by the women herself.

Finally, some useful and interesting material to read.
Throughout the history of man, women has been shown as prizes, breeding-stock, shrews, tricksters, etcetera. Anything that you can think of really, just not in positions of power (not very often anyway) and generally behind men. Second-class citizens, if so to spek. Men have always been proritized over women, you don't even have to go that far back in history to stumble upon cases were men were treated far more favorably than women. Was this unfair? That's a debate for another time, but at that time, society didn't exactly function as it does today.
When women were given the same righs as men, one would think that these feminists would have disappeared. But they didn't. Why? Because the problem is very similar to when Africans in America were given the same righs as Caucasians.
Some women today, just like some Africans today, still except sympathy for what their ancestors went through. To the general public, there is no such thing as a black racist, or a female sexist. Why is it that white males, like me, can't crack a joke about sexism or racism, when women and black people respectively, can? Dear women, dear africans, why am I to be punished for what my distant ancestors did? Why can you practise sexism and racism when I can't?
There are so many laws against sexism, sexual harassment, etcetera, but if I ever reported a women for sexual harassment, I would be laughed out of the police station, because society expects me to be grateful for the attention a female, oh so gracefully, bestowed upon me.
Men and women are unique, physically and mentally. We have each our general strengths and weaknesses. But while it is okay to be a tomboy, being a girlish man is less than appreciated. Both genders are viewed from a different angle each, by society as a whole.
With this, I'm not saying that women have all the advantages in this problem. No, not at all. When it comes to ***, women have a disadvantage that is worth noticing. When a man is, in lack of a more apropriate terminology, being a **** and having *** with every female in sight, he's given a pat on the shoulder and some praise from his friends. But when a women has *** with a couple of males, she's gross, slutty and cheap.
I've said this before and I'll say it again: Our society makes next to no sense sociologically.

Yes, this is exactly where I'm getting at in my earlier posts. You just said it better than me.

This is not about which *** is better and how does being gay have to do with anything?

That's homophobic. Are you suggesting that the fact that there are more gay men than lesbian women is a negative? Something to be ashamed of?
And men have something women don't, as well. :|

O_O
That was, without a doubt, one of the posts this thread could make do without. Why do people like you insist on posting stuff in threads like these, with the sole purpose of spreading a message without supporting it with any arguments? But just for the heck of it.
What 'assests' are you talking about? Women, usually, have bigger breasts than men and where we have a penis, you have a vagina, a cervix, an uterus, etcetera. How does that, in any way, make you physically or mentally superior to the male part of the human race? While you can lift objects with an erected penis, I doubt you can use a vagina for any practical purposes besides sexual intercourse and masturbation.
There are more 'gays than there is lessbians'? Are you sure? And even if that's true, how does homosexuality make an entire gender, or the homosexuals themselves for that matter, weaker? Homosexuality is not just human phenomenon you know.

Well, what you said about there being more gay men than lesbian women was said in a negative manner. It seemed to imply negative connotations, and it could be offensive to other people. So I'm not sorry that you took offense to me pointing out that your statement was in fact homophobic, even if it wasn't intended to be.

You're welcome.

Those are just women/yours excuses for the fact that you don't want or can't be equal with men. Plus you just didn't rule out any of my points, you just strenghtened my belief of woman. They say one thing and think the other. You want be equal but you don't really wan't be. Or even can't.

I'm not a sexist. But this is the world we live in and most women just go along with it and live by the old traditions. Then the next thing is they demand equality but....no.

You posted this:

Men and women will never become equal.

few examples:

General:
Men have better physics

Relationships:
-women usually assume that the male in the relationship will take the dominating/leading part,
- women want to have taller men than they are themselves = thus signaling they want strong figured men compared to themselves. They think they are weak compared to men.
-when it comes to ***, males usually show the way and women follow..women don't have any iniative when it comes to that. We would want them to have but no...

So it's not about women and men should be equal but the fact that they can't be, 'cause women assume a certain position in many aspects of life.

I have alot more examples but these are the ones I came up with on a short notice..

Do you even understand what women mean when they ask for equal treatment?

Equality before law, right to same freedoms as the others half of the population, right to be treated with respect just as much as other *** which are basically the simple HUMAN rights.

Your post was really off topic as it didn't address/recognise the real issue but concentrated over gender behaviours in a realtionship.

I know it was sarcasm. My "you're welcome" was sarcastic reply too wich you failed to realize.

They are opinions of my experience on woman and how do they behave.

Again- if you understood it was saracsm - good for you. but you still fail to understand the reason of saracasm or were just adment to ignore the post in favout of clinging on to discussion on gender roles and behaviours in your personal relationship.

And yes I don't see them as equal because of the things I listed, doesn't mean I don't want to see.

Yeah you would treat them equal when you find them playing exactly the same gender role? but that won't be possible unless humans mutate and turn into single *** species with assexual reproducton so in other words you are saying you will never treat them as an equal as a human being.

Only way for you to encounter them is to call me racist..? Really lame.

De facto racist. You don't seem to understand the term. You are discriminating women based on their gender - you even went ahead and stated that Male physique is better- basically you see men as a superior race when you say that.

You fail to see that female physique is not superior or inferior but different because of different biological roles. More than that when you start comparing physical appearance to decide who should be equal and not - you just run into racist zone.

This related to my points or me how?

You really want to know? Half the time I see you thee days you are discussing female sexual behaviour or body parts.

I never said they did. True alturism doesn't exist, why should it exist here

Maybe they want all those things but doesn't mean they are in fact equal. They should be yes but be for real.

What next? who else shouldn't be seen as your equal, my lord? Reality is that some men don't want to give them equal status in society and that's all to it.

And that is a question I can't answer since I don't think we decide the status, 'cause for example I am just stating facts. You can call me liar if you want.

I'm being short sighted?..I just listed you examples how thins between men and women work in my experience.

Again I am not sexist, just that I think women settle for their part as the weaker ***.

But seriously tell me in what things women are as equal as men and in what aspects of life they do show it and act like it??

I know they should be treated as equals but my point is women don't always act the way that they are equals! And you know this.

You are really going off the tangent. Gender equality doesn't mean that women or men discard their bilogical differenes but trying to explain all of it to you would mean a thesis.

Here is a start for you- when Unicef is talking about equality it's is aiming for these goals:

Gender equality and the MDGs
The third of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) is to "Promote gender equality and empower women". It sets a target of eliminating gender disparity in all levels of education by 2015. Gender equality can also help the international community to achieve other important MDGs:

MDG1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
Increasing rural women's agricultural production and participation in the labour force helps to reduce poverty and stimulate economic growth.

MDG4: Reduce child mortality
Rural women's lack of access to education and assets is directly linked to high rates of child and infant mortality

MDG5: Improve maternal health
The vast majority of maternal deaths - estimated at half a million a year - could be prevented through better access for women to reproductive health services.

MDG6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
Gender inequality is recognized as one of the driving forces behind the spread of HIV infection and AIDS.

MDG7: Ensure environmental sustainability
As farmers and household providers, rural women manage natural resources daily. Their participation in programmes for the sustainable management of land, water and biodiversity is essential.

Gender roles are those behaviours, tasks and responsibilities that a society considers appropriate for men, women, boys and girls

Gender relations are the ways in which a society defines rights, responsibilities and the identities of men and women in relation to one another

Although women make substantial contributions to household well-being and agricultural production, men largely control the sale of crops and animals and use of the income. The failure to value their work reduces women to virtual non-entities in economic transactions, the allocation of household resources, and wider community decision-making.

Gender discrimination is any exclusion or restriction made on the basis of gender roles and relations that prevents a person from enjoying full human rights

In many countries, a husband's family may take land and livestock from a woman on her husband's death, leaving her destitute. Female farm labourers' wages are lower than men's, while low-paid tasks in agro-processing are routinely "feminized". Discrimination can descend into gender-based violence, especially during emergencies when women are isolated and vulnerable. Another form of violence is women's lack of rights to "safe ***", a major factor in the spread of HIV/AIDS in some countries.

Gender equality is when women and men enjoy equal rights, opportunities and entitlements in civil and political life.

It is equal participation of women and men in decision-making, equal ability to exercise their human rights, equal access to and control of resources and the benefits of development, and equal opportunities in employment and in all other aspects of their livelihoods.

Gender equality makes good sense. One study calculated that agricultural productivity in sub-Saharan Africa could rise by 20% if women had equal access to land, seed and fertilizer. A World Bank report concluded that reducing gender inequality leads to falling infant and child mortality, improved nutrition, higher economic productivity and faster growth. For the global community, gender equality is also a commitment, embedded in international human rights' agreements and in the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

Gender equity means fairness and impartiality in the treatment of women and men in terms of rights, benefits, obligations and opportunities.

The essence of equity is not identical treatment - treatment may be equal or different, but should always be considered equivalent in terms of rights, benefits, obligations and opportunities.

@Tsuchi - I will reply to your post later. For now I don't have time for it. But really read that post from Goldrinn and Zero Kelvin on earlier page..they (especially Goldrinn) said what I was going for, better than me.

Wow the poll result is rather sexist. As i said on the surface everybody is equal, but if you look into it, there is no such thing as equality. Example a female government official would be worth more to society than a male prostitute, are they equal?, no.

Ah..whatever.. I didn't have time to give that post a suitable finish! I'm done with this thread and would rather catch up on OP. :p

Edit: I took a look at the posts and I don't think they are really convering the actual gender equality issue either. they comaplin about police not caring if a woman rapes them- that's because men who sleep around boast of it in their circle proudly. It really has nothing to do with bias towards women but about their own behaviour and beliefs if they do so.

Well, no. We're keeping in mind here that some females might have voted 'No' because they believe women are superior.
