Originally, I was taught but we didn't go too far since he was quite busy.
After that, I found Sharingdork as a Sensei under whos tutelage , then I went inactive.
When I returned, Kerrah agreed to , but then he forgot to reply to the thread.

Alright, lesgo.

Since you've covered a little bit of the basics, just tell me what's the difference between Gen and Nin? We'll train by the method system, however for Genjutsu, before we start the method system, there is a pre-method too:

Pre-Methods

Recognition & Breaking Genjutsu
Casting Genjutsu
Layering Genjutsu

Now, what can you tell me about Recognizing and Breaking Genjutsu? How would you recognize genjutsu and how would you break genjutsu?

Well, when I think over it; I'm not exactly sure if there are any major differences between Ninjutsu and Genjutsu. Personally, I'd say that Genjutsu affects the mind and soul, whereas Ninjutsu affects the body. Genjutsu as the name suggests, is an illusion. Ninjutsu on the other hand is real...

Ninjutsu can be quite versatile, as it can be used for offense, as well as defense. It can also serve medical purposes. Genjutsu merely involves casting illusions, which in a sense can too be exploited, but an illusion can never be reality. :| sry

Recognition of Genjutsu
Genjutsu is a technique
that manipulates your senses, you need to have a strong awareness of reality in order to understand when something is out of place.

Obviously, the easiest way to figure out you're in a Genjutsu is about how bizarre a certain situation is, either because it's too fast or unrealistic, or because you can't pinpoint how it began, or even because it's working in a way it isn't supposed to. Something like the sky suddenly turning red, or things starting to move around or distort, usually means a Genjutsu has been placed upon you.

The second way of realizing you're in a Genjutsu is when you know the ninja or know enough to understand that whatever the Genjutsu is creating, is beyond the capability of your opponent. For example, if you see a Byakugan user create a tree, you have enough understanding of RP to know that these KG don't match. Ofcourse, in our NBverse; CEs exist that grant the user the ability to perform certain KGs. Hence, you need to assume Hidden Skills and learn what is real and what is not by trial and error. Surely, one can notice that the tree constructed by the Byakugan user suspiciously doesn't cast a shadow, or that you couldn't hear it grow.

Countering a Genjutsu

1. The most Basic method to disrupt a Genjutsu is by applying a sudden surge of chakra. By weaving the Sheep handseal, the target stops their chakra's flow.. Gathering it at a single point before releasing it all at once therefore applying a sudden surge of chakra. This is known as Genjutsu Dissipation and can also be used by an unaffected person on one who is affected by Genjutsu, however keeping in mind that the unaffected person first needs to identify whether the affected one even is in a Genjutsu. The same method applies for the unaffected person needs to place his palm upon the affected one, weave the Sheep handseal and direct a sudden surge of chakra. This jutsu, referred to as Kai or Release can be used against most generic Genjutsus.

2. Now, as you might know; most if not everyone on NB is fascinated by Genjutsu's that involve paralyzing the target. Why? Because Kai cannot be used when the body is paralyzed.. However, there is a method to counter Genjutsu's that involve paralyzing the target..

  • Like I mentioned earlier, Kai cannot be used to disrupt a Genjutsu that paralyzes the target however this does not mean that the target cannot apply a sudden surge of chakra. Indeed, there are numerous techniques that involve releasing a surge of chakra and these techniques can be used to disrupt Genjutsu's when it is not possible to use Kai. A few examples are Earth Release: Hardening Technique and Gentle Fist Style: One Blow Body
  • Besides inducing a sudden surge of chakra, the user can also 'hurt' themselves to overcome a Genjutsu. To put it clearly, pain can be used to break Genjustu. Hence, twisting a finger, biting off your cheek or even cutting off your tongue; the latter displayed by Kisame can be used to break a Genjutsu.

In our RP, certain clans and characters are bestowed with abilities to counter Genjutsu. Those possessing the Sharingan can not only recognize a Genjutsu, they can also layer your Genjutsu with theirs, turning their nightmare into yours. The Hyuuga Clan can recognize the entry of foreign chakra into their chakra system. Then there is Deidara Senpai whos scope actively disrupts any A Rank and below Genjutsu from being placed. Certain Custom Clans like the Nekura Clan can also avoid Genjutsus, because the chakra of the Juubi inside Nekura clansmen rejects the chakra of the person casting the Genjutsu.

Right. The effects of Ninjutsu are real, whereas the effects of Genjutsu are purely illusionary, tricking the opponent's brain into thinking that they are real.

Reorganization and Breaking deal with how to realize one is within a genjutsu and then how one can get themselves free from genjutsu. This method deals with combating against genjutsu (that's already been cast or preventing/anticipation). In order to fight a genjutsu one must typically first understand they are in a genjutsu and after which take the appropriate results to release themselves from the illusion, altering the balance of spiritual and physical energies, and return to reality.

Not bad.

In essence there are two ways to detect genjutsu: either figure out its an illusion or notice the fluctuation on your chakra flow. To figure out its an illusion, the target needs to analyze the information he is receiving from the illusion and detect what is wrong with it or performing an educated guess. While the most used method, its also the most flawed and, regardless of any fact, is nothing more than a gamble as ones reasoning can always be wrong. Its also sometimes slow, as some illusions are very detailed and perfected to the point that noticing its an illusion may be virtually impossible. Detecting the fluctuation in your chakra flow depends on the situation but mainly depends on your abilities as only Doujutsu or Sensory Ninjas can have ways to detect fluctuations in ones chakra flow. Doujutsu users have, however, a limitation that hinders them to a bigger degree: if the illusion is high ranked (A-Rank for Byakugan and Rinnegan, while on the Sharingan, dependent on its stage) and takes complete control over their eyesight, they can't see their own chakra flow as what they will see is what is the illusion. Chakra sensors on the other hand need to figure out its a genjutsu or that something is wrong to then will themselves to focus on their chakra flow and notice its fluctuation unless they have the Chakra Sensing technique already active. Basically, if they don't figure out nothing is wrong, they won't sense themselves. This means that Chakra Sensoring ninjas work on a hybrid basis. In one hand they need to figure out some minor sign that its an illusion but on the other hand once its found they can use their sensing abilities to confirm it without a doubt.

One misconception generally associated with Genjutsu is that ones chakra travells to ones target. This is false or, if true, was never proven or showed in the manga/anime. If this was the case, we would never see Doujutsu or Chakra Sensory users getting caught in Genjutsu as they "would see it coming".

Another point that leads to many discussions is the fact that Clones may or may not be affected by Illusions. The truth is that they are in fact affected by illusions but since they don't have an organic, real body, they don't suffer pain or reflexive actions based on that illusion. They will experience it and see it and be affected by it in terms of their senses, but they don't take mental or otherwise physical damage nor do they experience suffering or torture, faint or otherwise fall asleep or become paralyzed as a result of the Illusion.
Now, this can be done in 3 basic ways:

1- Altering the balance between physical and spiritual energies in your chakra by disturbing your physical energy. This is done by producing pain. Pain comes from the body and thus it makes your physical energy fluctuate by "shocking" your body. Because of this fluctuation, your chakra flow experiences a spike. This spike is a disturbance that will dispel other disturbances present in your chakra by unbalacing its flow and reseting it to its normal flow. The higher the pain, the bigger the spike. The more resistant or accostumed to pain your bio is, the less effect this has. Kaguya bios for example have a very high tolerance to pain, making them unsuited for this release method. While genjutsu can mimic pain or any other sensation, it will always pale against real sensations. While Pain is subjective, certain guidelines can be followed.
D Rank Genjutsu: Chipping a Finger (like one does as he bites to draw blood for a Summoning Jutsu)
C Rank Genjutsu: Low level Physical Attacks, Bitting a chunk of your Cheek
B Rank Genjutsu: Low ranked Taijutsu/Freestyle
A Rank Genjutsu: High ranked Taijutsu, Stabbing Yourself in minor muscle, Cutting yourself, Breaking Smaller bones, Low level Burning/Voltage, Painful Cold
S Rank Genjutsu: EIG/Sage level Taijutsu, Breaking Bones, Deep Stabs or cuts, Medium Voltage/Burning, Extreme Painful Cold, Bitting your tongue off
2- Altering the balance between physical and spiritual energies in your chakra by disturbing your spiritual energy. This is done by your sheer will power. Its done by forcefully creating a surge of chakra in your body by spiking your spiritual energy through will power alone, forcing yourself to mold and channel your chakra in a way that will either halt the chakra flow or disturb it. It can be done in 2 ways: through the cannon release technique known as Kai or through techniques that produce a high surge of chakra on your chakra flow.

-In the case of Kai, it breaks genjutsu in a direct proportion to the chakra spent to perform it. This means one needs to spend the same amount of chakra spent to produce the illusion. It counts as a jutsu from the jutsu count, requires 1 handseal and can only be used once per turn. The disruption does not break inheritly passive techniques, namely Walking on Water or Tree Climbing. Some self induced illusions can act as Kai or be designed to act as Kai.

-When we consider high chakra surges as a form of release, you need to have a technique that is at least 1 rank higher than the genjutsu set upon you for the case of elemental or specialized techinques (like Gentle Fist), or 2 ranks for the case of raw chakra techniques. An example of this is Raiton: Chidori Nagashi, an A-Rank full body technique that requires no hand seal and can dispel up to B-Rank Genjutsu set upon you. The principle is that as these techniques, since they require you to release a large amount of chakra from all or most of your tenketsu at once in a less focused manner, will, when one uses enough chakra, overcome the fluctuation set on the chakra flow, reseting it to its normal flow. Because this method needs one to overpower the fluctuation set on the chakra flow, you need to spend more chakra than what was used to induce the illusion. However, not all chakra burst-type techniques fall under this rule because of their own specific characteristics. An example is the opening of one of the Eight Inner Gates. Upon opening, the sudden release of chakra disturbs any genjutsu affecting you.

3- Altering your chakra flow through the introduction of foreign chakra or energies. This can be done by an ally who is capable of using the chakra transfer technique or by entering, for example, sage mode or being a jinchuriki in control of your bijuu or releasing a Curse Mark. The reasoning is that as foreign chakra enters your system or another energy (natural energy), your chakra flow becomes altered and unbalanced and thus releases the genjutsu. This enables the release of any Genjutsu except Mangekyo Sharingan grade Genjutsu.

All of these methods produce a reset-like effect on your chakra flow, making it return to normal and dispelling the Genjutsu. However, one most not forget that for a release to be valid, it ALWAYS needs to be partnered with a logical and reasonable explanation of how, from your bio's RP perspective, you figured out it was a Genjutsu/Illusion and thus felt the need to release from it. Releasing from it by "luck" or "because i know its a genjutsu" without stating the why isn't valid.
Any questions?

If a Genjutsu paralyzes the user, can the user break out of the Genjutsu using methods that include 'cutting yourself', 'deep stabs' etc. I mean, should not the Genjutsu restrict the movement of the target? Ofcourse, in the anime; Orochimaru was able to slightly move his arms and weave handseals during his first encounter with Itachi, but that was possibly because Orochimaru was a strong shinobi. My question is mostly in regards to what if a NB Sage places a Genjutsu upon.. a Sannin.

Obviously not. When you're paralyzed, your whole body can't move, nor weave handsigns. Except, if you've already formed a handseal, and THEN you're placed in a paralysis genjutsu, and the specific handsign you performed was that of Kai, then you can break of the genjutsu. The anime was a different case. I'll just dive into the first method to help you explain this:

Restriction/Paralysis Genjutsu

These techniques primarily deal with affects to the tactile sense in order to create the illusions of restricted movement or paralysis. The techniques in this canon method are all higher ranked techniques and aimed to prevent the use of other jutsu from your opponent and keep them stationary so that you can attack them without them defending. Techniques, usually conspicuous in nature, will institute some sort of illusion of physical hindrance; this can come in the form of binding entities, severe pain that makes it hard/impossible to move, etc.

Advantages of Method

This method makes it difficult/impossible to move therefore preventing your opponents from casting hand seals for other techniques or genjutsu kai. With most restriction or paralysis based techniques, they take away one's ability to use one of the four methods of genjutsu release therefore limiting their options (provided their hands aren't together for a seal or what not). As well, these techniques tend to leave a better opening for attacks or to change the flow of the battle.

Disadvantages to Method

Most paralysis techniques are easily discernible and detected. To the ordinary shinobi, these techniques tend to be easier to deduce as illusion resulting in their ability to proceed to try and break out of it. Most canon forms are easy detections, though when it comes to one's own techniques they can be crafted in such a way where they are inconspicuous. However something that brings the extent of a physical paralysis or restriction is easier to detect and therefore must be constructed carefully.

A question for you: You can break out of paralysis genjutsu mostly through several jutsus that don't require handsigns. What are those jutsus?

Any technique that involves a full-body surge, and requires no handseals can be used to get out of a paralysis-type Genjutsu. Examples are below

(Raiton: Chidori Nagashi) - Lightning Release: One Thousand Birds Current
Rank: A
Type: Offense/Defence
Range: Short (Mid if channeled through a medium)
Chakra Cost: 30
Damage Points: N/A (+10 if used to boost weapon damage)
Description: This jutsu allows the user to generate non-focused electricity from their body. It can be used as an omnidirectional attack or be channeled through weapons, the ground or other conductive mediums. Because the electricity isn't focused, it doesn't kill on contact, instead it has great numbing and paralyzing effects. To channel Nagashi through a medium, the user needs to focus the technique into one of his hands which will then be put in contact with the medium and can only choose to either do a widespread attack throughout his whole body or to channel it into something; he cannot achieve both usages at the same time. Despite not having much destructive or damaging properties, Nagashi can be used to destroy low rank earthen and wooden structures and even negate chakra on the ground to stop high ranked earth and wood techniques. It has also been noted that Lightning Specialists that have mastered Lightning to the highest degree can resist total paralyzation, although they still feel the pain and numbing effects.
Note: Paralyzation lasts 1 turn if sucessful but is ineffective against bios who have a primary Lightning Specialty

(Doton no Yoroi) - Earth Release Armor
Rank: B
Type: Defensive
Range: Short
Chakra cost: 20 (-15 per turn to remain active)
Damage points: N/A (+10 to taijutsu moves)
Description: This Technique coats the users body with stones, making them much more resistant to attacks, at the cost of their speed. Whilst using this technique, the user can even change their appearance, but once the technique is either defeated or worn off the users original appearance is shown. The user whilst in this armor is resistant to B rank ninjutsu techniques but is vulnerable to Lightning Techniques.

(Doton: Koka no Jutsu) - Earth Release: Hardening Technique
Rank: S
Type: Offense/Defence/Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 40 (-15 per turn)
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user releases a burst of earth chakra from all over his body. As he does this, a multitude of rock seemingly grows from his skin, forming a large, dense armour or rock much bigger and bulkier than the users original size. The armour can be manipulated and used to create extendable weapons to strike a target with like rudimentary swords or hammers. The downside is that the user cannot mold techniques from other elements a part from earth while sustaining the armor. The armor can be manifested in only specific parts of the body if the user so chooses.
