Yamato, having replaced Sanya in an instant, listened to his sensei closely. As she explained the first technique, a clone was created and began to run towards him. Yamato listened to his sensei, and sent condensed Doton chakra into the earth. He moved it into two parallel patches within mid range of himself, and once his opponent was a mere 5 meters away, he combined the two sides, rising up the earth into a dome while crushing the clone until it dissapeared.

The technique itself can be used to trap enemies completely, enclose on attacks, or block off an area in battle. It's pretty good overall, and the best way to defend is to provide an equal or greater force against the rocks to push them back or break them.

A solid dome stood between Yamato and Robin as his sensei explained the next technique. Turning the ground into sand and digging your way out? Sounded a bit weird, and useless in a sense, but it was needed anyway. Yamato channeled Doton chakra into his hand, compressing it and releasing it into the earth below him as he got into a fetal position. As the ground turned to fine dust, Yamto began to move forward, changing the ground while digging in more and more until he reached the opposing side of Robin.

It's a very useless technique. It's only good for surprise attacks or decoys, and the risk is too high. I'd only use it for transporting items since it could easily cave on on me.

"Great, but whether your usage would work or not depends on the opponent and their speeds. In this case, I'm pretty slow, so, yeah, it should work fine. And good, you understand the second technique. Let's apply what we learned in for the next technique. Once you're underground, locate the target and pull them down whilst lifting yourself up simultaneously. Once they are down, only their head will be visible - there, you can decapitate, or torture them. Simply describe any usages you see of this, or how you would use it in battle."

Yamato listens to his sensei's instructions again, nodding as he finds a use in the technique he once called useless. Re-activating the 'Hiding-like-a-Mole' technique and begins to dig underground once more.

Description: The user changes earth into fine sand by channeling chakra into it, allowing the user to dig through it like a mole. While underground one can sense what is happening on the surface and use the information to launch a surprise attack on the enemy. Once can also hide deep in the ground, escaping to a depth where the enemy cant reach. It also appears that after digging, the ground can be returned to its original state, leaving no trace of where the user entered the earth. While inside the earth, the user cannot make handseals and can only use Earth techniques below C-Rank. If he tries to do a higher ranked technique, he'll disrupt the Hiding like a mole technique and be left crushed.

Once he is about 2 feet underground, Yamato sends his chakra into the earth to sense out his sensei. Once he finds her, Yamato turns the ground below her feet into course sand, grabbing onto her ankles as he pulls her down into the course sand below. As he does, he closes the earth beneath him and rises up from the ground using his chakra, standing tall against the solid earth as his sensei is now neck-deep in dirt.

"Very simple, easy to use, and makes it easy to identify people above-ground. It's a great supplementary setup for other jutsu, but lacks power. The opponent could easily turn the ground into sand and dig out once more, or use a mouth-based attack to push me back. The best way to use this is to get the opponent down and shoot there head as you rise up, leaving no room for error."

"Great, though i generally don't use techniques with too many risks, like Hiding like a Mole.. Up next. An earth technique that is offensive and if used correctly, deadly." Nico Robin explains, as she plants a training dummy five meters from the student. "Simply gather chakra and perform nature transformation to change it to the sturdy and unified nature of earth. Send it to your desired location, in this case, underneath the enemy, and with shape manipulation, shape out one, or several rock pillars to protrude from the ground in an attempt to skewer the target. The basic concept of it is quite simple; keep in mind the more you create, the less power each one has. Perform it to this training dummy and describe the location in which you are targeting, and explain why. Furthermore, imagine you are at a normal and grassy terrain. If the enemy were to use this to you, how would you defend accordingly? Lastly, what combinations could you make with this technique?"

Description: This technique lets the user create a few rock pillars that will protrude from the ground to skew the target. The rock pillars will even pass through obstacles to reach their target if these are less dense. The pillars/spikes can be done in any earthen surface, including other earth techniques of the user.

"This next one is also useful, if used correctly. By channeling a vast amount of chakra through your feet and through the ground within mid range, you can create minor tremors in the terrain. This is done by performing nature transformation to change the nature of your chakra into the properties of earth, and afterwards, have it penetrate the earth within mid-range of you, and use the chakra to manipulate it in such a way that it would cause the earth to rattle and shake. It is capable of causing the enemy to lose their footing or miss techniques that require precision. Perform it, and explain how you would use this in battle, and how you would 'defend' against it?"

Description: The user will concentrate and release their chakra into the ground to create a small tremer that can result in making the enemies lose their footing and fall to ground or miss the aim of a given technique.

Yamato listened to his sensei as she explained the next two techniques. For the first one, he had to create several stone spikes that would skewer a training dummy. Pretty straightforward. Yamato pooled his chakra into the earth below him, condensing it into Doton chakra. Once it was strong enough, he separated it into 10 sections, forming it into the shape of a needle before pushing it out of the ground. 10 needles began to penetrate the dummy from all angles, continuing to shrink back into the ground and come right back out over and over until it was nothing but a pile of wood.

Next, Yamato channeled his chakra into the earth a second time, turning it into dense Doton chakra. Once it was dispersed across the ground, he moved the chakra in every direction he could, rapidly vibrating it until Nico Robin would not be able to stand. He smiled as the technique went on, rattling the training grounds in front of him.

"They're both very simple to use and easy to master. As for the first one, I would use it not only to damage the user, but to disrupt incoming attacks as well. The only way to defend against it is to protect the body or the space around you. As for the second one, finding a way to come out of range or to station yourself in the air would be the best way to stop yourself from interruption."

"Great Great! Let's continue." Nico Robin says enthusiastically. "This next one is disgusting. Channel chakra into your lungs and perform nature transformation to change the nature of your chakra into the hard, and tough properties of earth. You use the chakra to materialize a mass of mud and as it is created, I want you to spit out the globule of mud towards the target. You would want to aim it to blind a targets' vision or choke th em, or something of that effect because it itself does very little damage. Perform it, and practice your aim on that clone."

Description: The user spits a thick globule of mud at the target. If aimed correctly, it can blind the target's vision and choke them. It can also be used to create a sticky patch on the ground.

"Stone lodging distruction is more or less a situational technique rather than one you can use constantly..." Nico Robin explained as she lead the student to a new terrain: a cave. "So, these are the types of terrains you'd want to use it on. Buildings, Ceilings, cliffs, caves, yes. Perform a single hand seal and channel chakra into a targeted area. Perform nature transformation to change the nature of the chakra to be compatible with the earth structures. With the earth chakra, i want you to dislodge the earth structures causing them to collapse or fall. You'd really want to do it so that it aims to fall towards the target. Of course their are limitations; you can use it on mostly anything besides earth structure that are chakra made and are higher than C-rank. Perform it and give me situations in which you'd use it, as well as combinations. Questions if you have any."

Descripton: The user will do one hand seal and cause nearby earth structures (either natural occurring ones on the field (such as cave ceilings, cliffs, etc), man made (buildings, etc) or jutsu made (up to C-Rank active structures)) to collapse and fall. This technique allows the ninja to control nearby stone and rock and dislodge any vulnerable or sensitive spots, causing the structure to collapse. This can be especially useful if in a cave or a stone lodging. The technique can loosen the rocks and cause them to come raining down on whomever is trapped inside. The damage depends on the size of the cavern or rock lodging above or nearby the target and not on the amount of chakra used which doesn't need to be high. A large cave with a thick ceiling can easily do the physical damage equivalent to an A-Rank technique but due to the damage not being focused or chakra fueled, its also easily defendable.
