Windows based computer

Hey guys!
I am needing some help building a computer. My soon to be wife's computer died the other day and now she is wanting a new one. I have a lot of knowledge on Apple and haven't kept current on most of the new Windows based developments. She likes Windows and honestly I see this as a chance to make a sick gaming computer. However I would like some input on what I should put into the computer. I have only a 1000 dollar budget. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, Do not buy windows 8.


I would recommend these parts: Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 2GB, Intel Core i5-3350P Processor, 8GB RAM ddr3 1600 MHz (1300 MHz maybe) The rest is up to you, But those parts are not very expensive and if you want to upgrade them a bit you could still get a nice gaming computer for 700 dollars

very good build +1 for gaming.

except the new gtx770 might be a slightly better option especially if op likes nvidia.

Also if the computer is for computing based task and encoding/not so much for gaming, op might consider an i7 3770 and a relatively cheaper graphic card.

Honestly she will need it to watch youtube videos and check yahoo. Nothing more. I am wanting to use it for hardcore gaming.

If for web use only, your partner i mean, just get her a tablet, be it windows 8, android, or iOS.

If its for you and you want to game, check my post above.

She likes the tablet idea... and stated I can still build a computer.... She also told me to up the budget by 500 so we are looking at 1500 to spend. God I love her.

The only thing is I would recommend the new gtx770 over the last years hd7970

the gtx700 series just came out and price is really good too, eventually with driver updates it would get even better.

Alright I ordered the parts and the gtx770. Now she is stuck on what kind of tablet she wants. I will let her decide that. Anyways thank you to everybody who posted! It was a great help.
