b) hear about Blackbeard fighting the Red Hair Pirates

Well, Luffy already said he wants to take down the Yonko, which includes Shanks.

And I was gonna say maybe he'd react the same way he did when he heard about Ace being captured by Blackbeard, with "That's his own adventure". but it occurred to me it'd be some nice character development if he learned from that experience and abandoned that attitude to go fight with Shanks.

I'd like to see him fight alonside with Shanks.
But what do you think his mindset would be in fighting against Shanks? I really don't think he would have a killing intent against Shanks, but that raises another question. Without going all out, will Luffy be able to defeat Shanks?

SH crew will eventually become the strongest crew of onepiece at the end of the story and they surpass all pirates but if you consider the crew members then ussopp will be slightly below other strawhat's-in my op.I think oda's answer is also close to this
