8th gate does not make you surpass anyone. Deidara can solo the entire alliance with his suicide bomb, but that doesn't make him surpass any of them.
Gai is highly overrated. The gates are very powerful, indeed, but they do not last long enough, if you are up against many opponents or very powerful opponents. When the effect ends, you lose. That is it. If the enemy knew about this enourmous weakness of using the gates, they could simply keep being defensive or run away.
Take Kisame vs Gai - if Kisame just had the intel about the 7th gate, he had easily won. But of course any battle comes down to intell.
You can try to predict or guess, just how strong the 8th gate is, however, it's probably not much more than the 7th gate. Just look at the state, he is reduced to, when he uses the 7th gate. He cannot move at all, and every single touch is extremely painful.
So if you ask me, the 8th gate, is simply the same techniques as the 7th gate, however, it lasts longer. Perhaps a bit amplified, but certainly no new techniques.
My reason
The only times, we saw Gai talking about using the 8th gate, was when he was already using the 7th gate, and knew it wouldn't last long enough.
The reason, the 8th gate contain no new techniques, is quite simple. We know, that Gai has never used the 8th gate, since he would then be dead. So how on earth would he know any techniques, that are usable, when he uses the 8th gate.
Perhaps he once had a teacher, who used it, and then he saw the techniques, but that argument is lame, since it would require a sharingan to learn something from just observing it.
Oh and btw, metals aren't very hard materials, when you make such comparison... And you cannot compare something spiritual like Susanoo to a physical object. Besides, I never saw it breake Susanoo, but meh, lets not discuss that, it's irrelevant.
