Him actually appreciating her was kinda what this whole ordeal was about, plot wise if he doesn't acknowledge her and goes back to his old way, then this all would have been a complete waste of time.

He tried to kill Obito a few chapters ago (Which might be 15 minutes Naruto time)
He said Sakura is useless and is only saved because Naruto happened to be next to her.

not to mention they all tried to kill each other.
