The Will of D as been referred to as "God's Natural Enemy."

We're also told by that a demon or curse resides in the devil fruit - although Rob Lucci and the Blueno disregard the rumor.

First person that comes to mind is great Satan - previously known as Lucipher. El Diablo
Where did Satan come from? From Hell? From the pits of Earth?
No.
Satan fell from the sky.

Slightly relevent- Conis asking whether God exists or not- she starts praying for God to save them: Coincidentally, Luffy (THE WILL OF THE DEVIL!) appears to defeat Enel and ring the golden bell

Luffy is Enel (God's) Natural Enemy

And on another note, here's a reddit thread mentioning how the Seven Deadly Sins from "The Divine Comedy" correlate to the strawhats:

"Luffy: Gluttony (Likes to Eat)
Zoro: Sloth (Likes to Sleep)
Nami: Greed (Likes Money)
Usopp: Pride (Lies to make himself feel better)
Sanji: Lust (Pervert)
Chopper: Envy (Wanted to be Human, thus was jealous of humans)
Robin: Wrath (Brings Destruction wherever she goes)
Franky: War (Weaponized himself, his own machines caused destruction)
Brook: Death (Skeleton)"

In the Divine Comedy, Virgil takes Dante on a tour through the depths and levels of hell, exploring the sins of the tragic fallen.
Through One Piece, the Strawhats have unraveled corruption, exploitation, betrayal, and manipulation across many islands. (King Wapol guy from Chopper arc, Alabasta-> Crocodile exploitation, Enel's fury, Doflamingo's reign).
There is no King or God that the strawhats won't topple or expose to the World.

Google probably knows what the "D" stands for.

How would I react if the D stood for Devil/Diablo?

Monkey Devil Luffy would suck ass how horrible it would sound :|

Trafalgar Diablo Law :|

Horrible,
Eh, sounds nice to me.

Monkey D Dragon, Portgas D Ace, and Monkey D Garp, sound funny as they are.

I don't read One Piece so I didn't read
Thanks for sharing doe
No problem

I respect this theory. It's simple and probable.
My only doubt is that it's too simple; it doesn't seem like something Oda would do but then again it wouldn't be such a stretch.

This theory is pretty much common knowledge. Its symbolism almost anyone can notice if they read OP from literary or critical standpoint.

If 'D' stands for Devil then that will be very sloppy and underwhelming. To me, its much bigger and symbolic than that. Same goes for this "satan" stuff as the SHs are criminals afterall.

Doflamingo seems like Lucifer to me.

I read your theory and it sounds interesting.
Thanks

Refer to previous comment.

I doubt it.

Off topic: that last pic made my day.

Well that "D" stands for "Devil" is not particularly new and has been suggested several times before.

The stuff about the Divine Comedy sounds awesome and all, but there is something wrong there. I did not read that book, so I don't know in detail what is written there, but if you start counting the amount of Strawhats, you know there's something off. Nine Strawhats in total, but only Seven Deadly Sins. War and Death are not part of the Seven Deadly Sins. They are part however of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: War, Death, Famine and Conquest.

So as much as I would like to believe this as I love the symbolism behind it (I mean what better way to describe OP than as a divine comedy?), I sincerely doubt Oda had that in mind when he created the series.

Also on Skypiea the term "god" did not have a divine connotation. It was the position of the head of their community just like a president is the head of a republic, a king of a kingdom, a mayor of a city and a captain of a crew. Enel himself of course believed he was a divine being, but in essence the term "god" did not have a divine meaning.

That DF would host the spirit of a devil is even within the OP verse what you would call an urban legend. People like Vegapunk however have been investigating DF for quite a while now and have been unlocking their secrets one by one which means as much that everything the DF do is explainable by science, and in this case by biology in particular.
