In the series we have come across people that carry the middle initial D. So far we know that most people with this ''D'' have always fought in a certain way. The clue's we have gathered for now are:
* The Will of D is carried by a whole family. Each member of the family has the D in their names. The clue that was left behind by Jaguar D Saul. He specifically said that he didn't know anything about the D, except that only knew that everyone in his family carried it in their names. The confirmation was given by the Monkey family. Everyone in that family carries [ From the current members we know ].
*So far every person with the D smiles before they die. So what does it mean? This means that they were grateful for their lives. Ace/Luffy/Gold Roger/Rouge/Saul have shown this before they died. Luffy showed this at Loguetown for people wondering why I added him.
Let's move on to Whitebeard's words:
''The man who Roger was waiting for... was not you Teach, at the very least..
When somebody finalls finds that treasure.... the world will be turned upside down.....!! A man will come foarth to challenge this world''. Of that great battle that someday will engulf the entire world''
-- Edward Newgate --
We have gathered a lot of information over here, but we still need to figure out what this D is. So people that will always fight... people that can change something in this world. I tried to search for this word and came to a word called ''Defiance''. But Defiance sounds a little weird, so lets call it for now Defy. ''The Will to Defy''.
So I took some time to think and came up with the following:
I think that everyone's life is set up by fate in the One Piece world. These people are just following the path the fates laid out for them. Except for the D's. They are the ones that can defy their fate. Those with the name of D are free to make their own decisions, create their own paths. That's why their lives are generally harsher than others. But they are truly free, not governed by this world of the next's laws and that why they can smile at death. Because they have no regrets. They are also capable of liberating others. Those they care about, that they befriend, are freed from their paths. Not actually the same way, but still free. Their paths created by the fates are still there, but they are able to branch off to make their owns paths.
So how did the Will of D start? This answer lies in the Void century, even i can't answer this one. But if I had to make a theory about this then I would say that the first D was born as a regular man. but somehow was able to escape his path and the fates.
