[Discussion] Will Natsu ever surpass Gildarts?

All you need to do is put a villan stronger than Gildarts and let Gildarts get beaten to a pulp. Natsu will see it , get mad , defeat the villian with the power of Friendship and get stronger than Gildarts.

Seriously , if a Villian stronger than Gildarts tortured his friends or have his friends captive , he will probrably surpass that Villian and thus Gildards in around 30-50 chapters. Or by the end of the arc.

He may have surpassed her for a while but I am sure she overtook him pretty much quickly afterwards. They are all getting stronger through time. From that scenario , Natsu will probrably overtake Gildarts but I am sure Gildarts would surpass him shortly afterwords.

The nature of Fairy Tail seems to be that all the characters are getting stronger together. When one surpasses another that he is not meant to surpass permanently , the other will catch up from behind within a few chapters or by the end of the arc.

@bold: Gildarts and losing swag don't mix. He will always have it even if he is surpassed.

Feat wise Natsu is much stronger than him but since he's Gildarts he'll somehow come back and still be stronger than Natsu for some reason

Actually Erza has remarked that Natsu is stronger than her several times, Natsu simply doesn't fight seriously against his friends and most of the more recent times she beats him up are like the times Sakura beats up Naruto, purely for humor sake.

If what you say in your post is true than half of Fairy Tail's members should be strong enough to fight Zeref one on one as many of them were as strong or stronger than Natsu at the beginning of the series, yet they are all betting on Natsu beating him.

Natsu has surpassed Erza and everyone else in Fairy Tail, the only two that are still in question are Gildarts and Laxus.

And we have yet to see Natsu in Dragon Force so Natsu will surpass both of them shortly if he hasn't already.
