And I can't believe you think Kishimoto would have the plot line revolve around wanting an eye just for distance.

That spoiler is 95% fake. The official scans we got said that Toneri was aiming to capture Hinata, but ends up with the wrong person, that being Hanabi. Meaning his intended target was Hinata. Moreover, he later goes to capture Hinata as well, showing that him kidnapping Hanabi did not suffice for his intended plans.

He ended Edo Tensei, Prolonged the 4th War from starting, etc. :| And we did see him in a flash back last chapter when Sasuke saw him beside Naruto. :| We also saw Naruto using him as apart of TnJ. :|
