Will a new war help America's economy?

It's been like a formula for America during XX century and these years of the XXI, and it's been working for them. Now they're throwing some more stick to NK (for the second time in this year, meh) so...are they trying to fix their government shutdown or they're just bored? Will a new war be the final solution for the problems this time? Or not?

I don't think it's possible to have a real "War" in todays day an age.
If America did go to war and not just spoon the east like we have been the war would have ended years ago. Wouldn't even lasted a week. But we didn't and the debt built right up because America was too busy trying to look like the Good guy while walking on egg shells.

A real war would have given us more enemies, And ended up a bigger conflict. So we wen't over and played "police" and wasted billions. Im sure a ton of the military budget was wasted just for the heck of it because the nation was so willing to pay it.

though war creates employment those jobs are taken away from other, more productive areas of the economy (farming, manufacturing, etc.).

if every person was drafted to the military, we'd have full employment...and nothing to eat.

America would gain more if they sold more and invested less in wars. America is in debt if I remember correctly so shouldn't they be focusing on paying off all that instead of making it worse? But then again what do you expect from the world's police? xD

of course, the American government is in debt. Every country's in debt. Countries that are trusted by the world can be buy debt for less than that debt actually is. That's why they go into debt and spend very little on paying it off. country's aren't like people. Country debt is cheap, as long as trust is maintained (if it isn't Greece, happens).

Congress never (at least very rarely) balances the budget. However, it requires the President to spend the amount of money that it told him to as well as raise the amount in the budget. Thus,the President must by law get in debt just to spend the budget. the problem with America is our debt is huge. I think it's several trillion but I've stopped bothering to count.

I agree military spending is huge but large cuts will never be made. That's too much political capital for either party to spend. It'll never happen. So no one bothers with it, or they just make a negligible dent. the parties fight hard over the budget, leading to stupid government shutdowns like right now that's been going on for nearly two weeks.

a country bombing another country does not a good economy make.

a productive economy produces. Wars don't produce wealth. They destroy it.

the rest of reizon's post was about Social Darwinism. From a cynic's perspective, this has some validity (though it's completely morally repulsive, and I feel insulted to have my country accused of practicing it) , but it has nothing to do the economy.

edit; just reread that. I'm not anti-war. There are certain instances where a war is necessary to defend morals (removing evil men like Hitler and bin Laden). "The Tree of Liberty must be, from time to time, renewed with the blood of patriots and tyrants." However, wars don't produce for the economy. They are justified for other reasons.

America makes more money and has less casualties when one of our allies goes to war. we make money off of weapon sells and the spoils that come along with it, though its a very bad choice for economic improvement.
