That is why I am a strong believer of the fact that our country will inevitably overturn on itself and have another Civil War. Seeing as over the last 200 years (since the Constitution was made) our government has placed so many rules upon rules upon guidelines that our Constitution is nothing more than just fancy old historical documents that our country use to be founded on.

No offense to america, but arent they going at this too seriously. Does the goverment there not realise this is going to affect the whole world from closing down a site. They are not taking into consideration other countries veiws on this while when you shut down one website it means it is not accessible for the rest of the world. My dad has explained most of this to me. He says there will be ways round it anyway. From the way they are doing he has already found a flaw. Also iv heard most of the people suggesting this 'SOPA' are lod people that have hardly any experience with computers. They have no experience wit them and realise how this will affect the future generation aswell as our own?

well right now the gov isn't shutting anything down, the bill hasn't become law yet- the websites are closing to give an example of what it would be like without the freedom of using the site (or what it would be like to not have the wesite at all). The SOPA will make it that we can't freely us google and other informational/search engine websites. So google is censoring, and wiki is blacking out(as you can see NB and other sites like it are also censoring/ protesting). There are ways around this "bill"- like using proxies etc- however this SOPA will give 'businesses' the right to sue sites like NB if they feel the creators of the sites aren't doing a good enough job of protecting against piracy. However, this bill can also mean that sites like NB will no longer exsist because of various reasons- one being that they lose a vast amout of members because a group of them happen to be from the US. This of course is a very real consequence for NB and other sites like it, if this bill is passed.

Part of the reason America is so serious about this is because there is a lot of piracy going on, people aren't paying for music (there ripping it or illegally downloading it), and of course this is also true for manga, and other forms of entertainment. I don't agree with the way our gov is handling it- but something does need to be done about piracy.
