For me:
1. Naruto. His youth was just terrible. Still he remained himself, he never gave up. His attitude is admirable. He actually fought his way up, that deserves the most of my respect.
2. Kakashi. He saw his best friend dying in front of his eyes. His father died and people were saying he did not die like a ninja... Harsh words when you just lost your father. Still, Kakashi kept his coolness and became a great sensei.
3. Nagato/Yahiko/Konan. They grew up in war, they saw too much sh*it in there youth. They gave into hatred, but at the end, they redeemed.
4. Gaara. Actually the same story as Naruto. However, he was giving in too the hatred at some point... But now, he is a great Kazekage!
5. Itachi. No explanation needed I think. His life was a hell, but he remained good.
