Cuz the second wanted his team to escape.

Wrong section and because they were no match for the elite unit.Hiruzen was appointed 3rd hokage so he needed to survive, if they had the fire power to fight that elite unit they would have fought them.

Because Tobirama didn't want them to. And if Hiruzen would have helped fight him, that only would have meant both of them would end up dead.

Plot could also be a reason too, because who knew who would have been Hokage if Hiruzen died with Tobirama.

Agreed. What I admire abt Hiru, although I dont like him, is the way he died... He and Danzo went out like through warriors... I actually felt sad when Danzo was abt to die
