Why were the Senju clan so powerful?

I think it's because

(1) Large chakra reserves, obviously

(2) They were masters of versatility. Unlike the Uchiha, who had similar techs, I think the Senju all mastered different techniques and jutsu. That's what made them so powerful. I mean, look at Tobirama and Hashirama. They're directly related, but they're so vastly different.

i think it was just a select few senju who were truly monsters on the battlefield and the rest were kinda just there. i mean why else would they all just disappear after the death of hashi and tobirama who coincidently were their strongest

That's what I don't get. Both translations say that both Uchiha and Senju had superior chakra, but different kinds of superior chakra. Yet the Naruto lore has shown several times, text and images, that the Senju clan came out on top in the end. What did the Senju clan have? Surely they didn't rely on their #1 and #2 men, so it had to be something about the Senju blood that was distinctively better quality than the Uchiha clan's "Superior Chakra".
