Kishi has never been good with consistency in this series. So it's pretty much that... lack of consistency. And this isn't the only instance either... it's hilarious when people have to resort to the "PnJ" card when they know the series is badly written.

For the same reason Gaara didn't used sand tsunami, Mei didn't used futton, Ay run out of chakra quite quickly, Tsunade didn't summoned the slug. Plot no jutsu.

It's not lack of consistency, it's lack of understanding on people's part.

Onoki using chakra wastefully 24/7 when they're up against such an opponent is pure idiocy.

As it's been stated, Onoki already tried flight and Jinton, from behind and it failed because it makes no difference where he hits from.

Just because we might think "they could have done this", does not mean they will think of it in the heat of battle. I imagine most people on here don't know what combat is like, outlooks change, minds aren't as clear.
