Just something to chew on that's not "who is the mystery man" while we wait for the chapter this week.
As the title says, why was the Sage able to transcend his mother?
To be clear, I do not mean physically because at the moment that is something we are really not able to tell. What I mean is mentally. Why was he able to mentally surpass his mother?
I am referring to last chapter, when the Sage and his mother's ideals were contrasted pretty blatantly.
Sage's ideals.

Kaguya's ideals.

If you didn't notice the difference:
- The Sage hoped that everyone could understand each other's hearts, without words.
- Kaguya went back to using chakra in battle.
So I guess my question is, why the difference? What did the Sage have that his mother did not?
If I had to guess I would say the Sage closely resembles Yahiko who believed people could one day understand each other (notice the similar wording by Madara and Yahiko).

While Kaguya closely resembles Nagato who let the pain of loss get the better of them and developed a god complex in order to right what they saw wrong in the world.

Something tells me the Sage and his mother were approached (much like Yahiko and Nagato were by Tobi) by a dark figure offering them a solution to their problems (it wouldn't surprise me if it were the same solution offered by Tobi to Nagato and Yahiko either). Now whether they were approached together, like Yahiko and Nagato were, or separately I am not sure. Where we saw Yahiko stand his ground (much like I imagine the Sage would have) Kaguya (Nagato) gave it serious thought and would of course later give in.
