Why was Naruto a genin jinchuriki sent to battle Kakuzu of the akatsuki who survived a battle against the 1st hokage and who partner killed Asuma. I understand if Naruto knew sage mode at this time but where was Jiraiya and Tsunade? I also feel like Guy could have helped a little aswell discuss...

Tsunade sent Team Kakashi as back up because either (1) they were the only team available or (1) they were experienced at fighting Akatsuki.

Narutos rank didn't actually matter at the time. It's already been explained multiple times that despite being a Genin Naruto is easily Kage level in terms of power, even when battling Kakuza.

Sure they had no Intel on Kakuza, but it didn't stop Tsunade from deploying Team 7 as back up.
