Coulda sworn he was tired from killer bee or sumthin. And he was going through the pain in every cell from unlocking Susano'o for the first time. I'm not to sure though just my 2 cents.

Firstly , that was a MS genjutsu , and i think it was not a basic one since it took down a jounin level shinobi .. so there is your answer . And , hebi sasuke had just 3-t sharingan so not much with its genjutsu

The same Genjutsu he used on bee. Tho different illusions it was still an MS jutsu and put strain on his eye's.
