this was made like a million of times and this is the reason:yondaime was a feared warior which had a lot of enemyes outside of konoha he was to strong he feared someting might happen to naruto if naruto took the namikaze name thats why he desided to give naruto uzumaki so that he could protect him
This is because the 4th didn?t want Naruto to know that he was his farther until Naruto is older and wiser (if that?s possible). Naruto do not have the name of his father because minato and naruto mother are not married at the tami j man i know this because j-man was talking whit the 5 before he go to fight pain i will tring to find it and posted

My reasons
1- Protection, the 4th wasen't well liked by other villages and was feared. Knowing that Naruto was the 4th's son would make him a target.
2- So he didn't grow up spoiled and could live a normal life. (it backfired though)
3- Being the carrier of the nine tailes and the 4th's son people would expect greatness form him. It alieves some of the pressure.

Basically, they weren't married. They were probably going to get married but then the 4th died and that's why Naruto has his mother's last name.

I've picked up something interesting. Jiraiya said he had just thought about that name while eating ramen. Is that the reason why Naruto loves ramen? (end of page)
