Why Uchiha Itachi can't defeat Nagato

so i decided to make my enterance with a well worked out post about why Uchiha Itachi can't defeat Nagato and his Six Paths of Pain.

I would just like to say something in advance. I will try to prove why Nagato is superior to Itachi with many different points. For example, if i'll say Nagato has better Ninjutsu, i won't be saying Nagato wins because of Ninjutsu.

All i'll want to say is that his Ninjutsu is better and that's one point in Nagato's favor. I'll try to list as many points to Nagato's favor as possible - but remember, they're all just seperate points and none of them proves anything on their own!

If we look at the Data books, there are a number of categories listed there, which supposedly decide how strong a Ninja is all together - here they are:

-Ninjutsu
-Taijutsu
-Genjutsu

-Intelligence

-Strength
-Speed
-Stamina

-Handseals

Ok, the first step is, who has more of those categories in his bag...?

Ninjutsu

I assume we are all well aware that Nagato is vastly superior in the art of Ninjutsu, when it comes to him and Uchiha Itachi. The Rin'negan is a Ninjutsu-based Kekkei Genkai.

It allows the user to master all, and i mean all, Ninjutsu, as well as all elements. Nagato mainly uses Ninjutsu in his fighting - he is far superior in this.

Taijutsu

This is a little tricky, but i still easly give it to Nagato for various reasons. First of all, having 360 degree vision with absolutely no blind spot is the best possible thing for Taijutsu fighting - Nagato has that.

He has many bodies, while some focus on Ninjutsu, there are bodies like the android who are skilled in Taijutsu. Itachi's sickness affects him in his movement - unlike Nagato's.

Nagato might be sick, but he is not fighting with his own body, therefore Taijutsu-wise, it does not affect him.

We also all saw how fast Pein's bodies were in the recent Konoha raid - he moved faster than the eye can see a number of times.

A testament to his strength would be when he easly stopped Jiraiya's Sage Mode punche without even flinching - something Itachi has never displayed!

Genjutsu

No need to elaborate on this one - Itachi wins hands down.

Intelligence

No need to elaborate on this one - Itachi wins hands down.

Strength

Based on how Pein's bodies crack the ground when they land, based on how he stopped Jiraiya's Sage Mode punch, Pein's bodies obviously have superior physical strength.

Itachi has never displayed any physical strength - he never had the need to, but we're talking about facts here, about what was shown in the manga. Nagato wins this one.

Speed


The realm was the one who crossed the distance and he did it in an instant! We have also seen a number of teleport-like movements from Pein in the Konoha raid.

However, i give it to Itachi by a LITTLE!

Stamina

Both are sick, but Nagato's is obviously far superior. Based on what Itachi did vs Sasuke, and ended up dead, and based on what all Nagato did, Nagato's is superior. The guy fought of half of Konoha, fought Naruto, fought the nine-tails and many other things, and still had enough chakra to revive half of Konoha - a feat that probably took half of his chakra!

Handseals

No need to elaborate on this one - Itachi wins hands down.

Ok, up untill now, it's 4-4!

Now i'll bring in some categories that aren't listed on Data book, but we all know influence the outcome of a battle greatly:

-Chakra amount
-Expirience

Nagato is quite a bit older than Itachi and both grew up in the times of war, but it's quite safe to say Nagato has a shitload more of expirience!

The chakra amount shouldn't even be a question. Nagato could revive over 50 people, contain the nine-tails, fight off half of Konoha and all that with chakra alone.

He can actually control people with his own chakra - not just realms, even other people. His chakra reserves are Jinchuuriki-level obviously.

not everything is based on figures... u forget something pretty important...

each of pein's bodies have a speciality. if itachi got rid of god realm with amaterasu and whichever is the taijutsu one... the other bodies would probably have a hard time standing up to susanoo... also... jitaiya caught the bodies with genjutsu... tsukoyomi is a sight based jutsu... all share the same vision so tsukoyomi would catch all at once... goodbye mr. nagato...

and i like pein but i can see the fundamental flaws here...

however, i have to agree with Kawagiri about tsukuyomi, amaterasu and susanoo and the sight-based theory. also the 360 degrees vision is not completely invincible..

and stamina wise, while its true that pein's chakra is far greater than itachi's, itachi uses his own body to fight whereas pein uses 6 bodies that are not his own to fight. hmmm okay, actually i don't know if thats justifiable hehe, okay now i'm confusing myself. just a thought i had and i wanted to state it so don't flame me yeah.

but kudos to you stating all the facts and organizing it into this post!

However, I think it all comes down to this: in the end, in an all-out battle, Itachi would use his most powerful techniques: Tsukyomi, Amaterasu, and Sussano. I don't know what effects those techniques would have on Nagato's bodies. Could the body that separates spirits from bodies be able to circumvent Itachi's Tsukyomi, or would Itachi's Genjutsus affected Nagato's conscience regardless? Could the fat body (I don't know their names, obviously ) consume the energy of Amaterasu? Could Nagato's Shinra Tensei affect Itachi while he's using Sussano?

IMO, it comes down to specific jutsu matchups that we can never truely understand.


HOWEVER, you have proven, with your statistics, that Nagato is more useful in battle than Itachi is. I.E., Nagato is a more powerful shinobi than Itachi. That does not mean that Nagato would win in a battle against Itachi, though.

Well, I guess Nagato will win. Besides the rinnegan is superior than sharingan he also divided his abilities and distributed it to his six paths of pain. If my analysis is correct, anytime he wish, he can use any of those abilities whenever he wanted. Also I guess, like the sharingan (MS to EMS) those rinnegan eyes could also have the ability to heightened their form thus also their powers.

U made 1 mistake mate , u wrote down that Nagato sickness is not affecting his body . U are wrong . Its seen in episode where Hinata is fighting with yahiko that she managed to hit him only because of his sickness and that cough in time of hinata's hit . Although i do not agree with u that pein is superiour to itachi ( i think itachi would win that fight ) but those facts u mentioned are quite nicely written and kinda true.
And if u look to facts u mentioned i can still see Itachi wining the fight even if nagato have some points more at his side . They are both strong fighters ( some of strongest in Naruto ) and difference between them is minimal i think 1 category is 1 of the most important ones in fights like these and it will play key role in Itachis winning over Nagato.

This is imo only thing that make difference big enough to say that some1 will end up winning the fight bcoz of it , coz if u look at this fight without intelligence as a fact they are more or less even rivals.
If u think that Intelligence dont have key role just go back at time when Shikamaru killed Hiddan , and at that moment Hiddan was a lot stronger then Shikamaru was , still Shikamaru managed to kill him ONLY because Intelligence was far on his side

Nagato and all six paths sights are linked so one genjutsu would affect them all.

I dont believe that Itachi has ever been pushed to the limit (even with sasuke, sasuke was basically just no match with him) so we will never know

Itachi retreated of most of his fights and he just wanted to push sasuke to the limit but not himself (he may have been exhausted at the end but if he was serious the fight would be over in a few moments) so nobody really knows of what itachi was able, especially if he wasnt sick

btw even madara was afraid of itachi

Itachis susanoo is invincible, its only weakness is itachis somehow weaker stamina

true pain was affraid of madara and madara was scared of itachi its as simple as that


the bad guys are lucky that itachi was ill and wanted to die by sasuke

stats sure give an idea about who is stronger but can never be used to determine the outcome of a fight... unless the difference is extremely huge (take iruka v/s kakashi for example). there's also a lot of other things that determine a fight's outcome.

as for experience, imo it basically comes down to intelligence. unless in naruto's case where it is his unpredictability which prevails over his opponents.

what i'm saying is that naruto's characters most of the time fight people with better stats and experience. that's what the challenge is about and what keeps the audience going. the end result is that they pretty much always win, proving that the stats and experience of their opponents only determined the difficulty of the fight and not its end result.

as for itachi v/s nagato, i have already argued that itachi would win in a post named 'pain is stronger than itachi'. i've also written down a boring fanfic that describes a possible fight between them:

well itachi doesn't have much chackra capacity.when he went to retrieve naruto he used tskyomi and amaterasu so he was forced to retreat.itachi stated that when his clone was defeated by naruto he used up most of his chackra while kisame only used 30 percent.when it comes to nagato,this man assaulted the leaf village,used a large scale ulmighty push the shortens the life span ,used chibaku tensei,and resurrected all people who recently died.to be honest i would say itachi would be defeated quick.
