Hello and welcome to this thread. I was really confused about chapter 599 entitled obito. I thought i would wait until the next chapter before trying to assume who or what tobi is as im still not fully convinced its obito as there are limitless possibilities on who or what tobi could be. I read quite a few tobi threads and peoples reactions to tobi and the questions they had and then i began to formulate some questions of my own, then i came up with a theory on why tobi is evil. (Not this theory was formed within the space of a couple of minutes and is on the basis of tobi being obito).

We learnt a fair bit about tobi in the new chapter, more than we knew before and you may be wondering what. We learnt it was obitos dream to become the 5th hokage just like naruto has his dream to become the 6 hokage. You see its decided like fate, a set trend on the people who turn evil and are drawn towards its and obito dying kinda changed the balance an example is orochimaru evil, jiraiya good, sasuke evil, naruto good, however it was originally obito good, and kakashi who would most likely have become evil and this is not a stretch as with what happened to kakashi i believe that would have been enough for him. Please bare with me.

So now that ive explained what type of character turns evil the thing is those who are the most purest and kindest etc obito or naruto for them to lose their spirit, i mean just look at naruto what his personality is like and what would happen to him if he lost that spirit and for him his world turned to shit, how evil he would be compared to the regular characters who turn to the dark side. Im not getting my point across well, im not good at explaining, so try to be nice, ill get to what im trying to say its just i need to explain other things for you to understand.

You see obito was really good, had a dream, loved a girl (rin). Now obitos world turned to crap. It was destroyed and he realised what people are like and what life is like for the average person living in the ninja world. His life being destroyed devasted him, and destroyed his spirit making him more determined to never let it happen again. I believe he survived the cave collapsing his MS somehow activated he slipped through the cave and made it out, then sometime later he learnt of the uchiha clan massacre, sorry he participated in it aswell, rin died somewhere along the way, he learnt how the third hokage was able to do nothing to prevent it and his dream of becoming hokage meant nothing as the hokage could do nothing, and being hokage meant nothing to him. All these terrible things happened and more.

I forgot to mention i know his spirit broke, his dreams because a few chapters back he gave a speech to naruto talking about what he would do if he couldnt carry through with what he is saying becoming hokage, stopping the war etc. So he formed akatsuki or what not and set about putting the world in an infinite tsukmi ( dont know how to spell it). Where there would be no anger, killing, destruction and so what happened to him would no longer continue to happen in the ninja world. Anyway let me know what you think NB users and please be nice as i said its just a theory. Now my pizza is here and im off to eat be back soon :D

Maybe he simply realised just how f*cked up ninja world is; I mean, you have this kid who has a lot of power and ability enough to destroy entire countries, like Naruto, for instance.

Then you take him and throw in Konoha, a den of people-using, backstabbing political intrigue, where you have people like Danzou and the other old hags (claim as you might they have others in their mind as they screw people over).

Dude threw his life away trying to impress this girl and protect the village, dies in a pointless fight with people who died equally pointless deaths.

Maybe the actual Madara had a talk with this little dude, clarifying on just how f*cked up his life was, much like the one Tobi had with Sasuke.

...

It doesn't take a genius to realize someone would be a 110% willing to go along with the human nature-denying Eye in the Sky, I mean, Eye of the Moon plan.

Btw, this is what I think happened.

Im glad you posted as, you have mentioned a few things i did not and added to the theory (my theory is flexible). I think it is possible that madara (or someone) would have had a talk with him as tobi did to sasuke. I mean look how quickly sasuke turned, now take a happy, cheerful guy aka obito and see how quickly the truth would destroy him. Just look what it did to sasuke a not so happy guy. Also to people saying how could it obito when he fought minato etc etc. The thing is that was quite a while later and we all know its possible to use transformation jutsu and thats what i believed he did and could easily change his height, weight, size and weight till he got older and wouldnt need it. My only problem is how he would turn from that kid who couldnt do much to the obito we know and the only answer i can come up with is by training with a talented ninja (maybe, madara but that is a big stretch). Lastly its like kakashi said early on in the manga there are kids smaller than you naruto yet more powerful than me. Its possible obito had alot of potential deep within him.
