[Discussion] Why the main character has to have some kind of transformation

Hollow Mask, Mugetsu
Luffy:
Gear Second and Gear Third
Natsu:
LFDM and Dragon Force
Eren:
Pretty obvious, Titan transformation
(I don't know anymore manga, list if possible)
The Main Villains do aswell.
Frieza:
1st form, 2nd form, 3rd form, Final form, Full power
Cell:
Imperfect Cell, Perfect Cell, More than Perfect Cell
Buu:
Evil Buu, Super Buu, Kid Buu
And this is only DBZ
Obito:
Juubi Jin
Madara:
Edo Madara, SM Madara, Juubi Jin 1 Rinnegan Madara, Rikudou Madara

Not all MCs have one. It's mostly only in mangas in which characters have supernatural abilities, though still not all of them.

Lelouch gets a double Geass..that kind of counts as a transformation

And transformations in shonen manga seem like they're just a tradition at this point. It spices up the story a bit, and they're usually cool to look at
