[Question] Why the long activation wait time?

Why is the activation wait time so needlessly long? The notice said 24 hours, but it was more like 48 hours. Just seems like a giant pain for new members wanting to join.

I can understand wanting to combat spam, but the wait time is still ludicrously long.

Imagine a number of 2000+ browsing the website and a quarter to a half of those people registering at the same time. I'm sure if this feature wasn't enabled, a whole strain on the server will occur as it's literally spamming the database of the website. What happens? The website will lag and there'll database problems. Be greateful that the registration button is available because not so long ago, it wasn't. ^^

The wait-time is set like that so as to discourage multiple accounts made spur-of-the-moment, especially just for trolling purposes. Also, it allows the staff to catch certain troublemakers and their alternative accounts before they can do any real harm. A bit of patience can go a long ways towards reducing certain, more prevalent issues in many instances.​
