Isn't this more trouble than just killing everyone and taking back the chakra?

Because the tree is trying to get back ALL of it's chakra. But those people that died in War had their chakra lost with their dying bodies.

IT forces the user to imagine those loved ones, making a connection.

The tree locks on and saps away the dead's chakra.

This way, the tree gets back all of it's chakra, from both the living and the dead.

What I meant was: the tree could utilize a user too grant more chakra to the tree, I can only assume it would be plausible
