I think we all get what you meant and didn't take it out of context. At least I hope so. And it just seems to be a cultural thing. Western style animation tend to lean toward the macho type "manly" men in comics/animation where as eastern animation/manga tend to have more effeminate protagonist/antagonist.

But that's what their culture finds appealing more. But you have guys like Guts/Goku/Bulat etc who are manly enough by western standards anyway. So yeah probably a cultural thing.

Yea...must be. Now that I think about it the first anime I ever watched even before dbz was samurai x or roroni kenshin something like that and the mc was kinda feminine looking but I was a kid back then so it didn't matter to me but still that's kinda ironic that that's the show that got me into this whole anime/manga world lol

Some of the Japanese guys (or Asian in general) are like that in real life as well. A lot of them (mostly singers, actors, TV stars…etc.) like to look 'good' according to their own standards, which highly differ from that of men from others countries. It is something in their culture, so they like to reflect it in their arts (Manga/anime in this case).

XD I know right? I think my 1st was Akira. Tetsuo was atleast semi manly but he did look a lot like Kay so he was effeminate enough XD

I couldn't agree more though I do like Erza as well. But that's it.

An androgynous character defeats gender bias. I think most manga and anime has at least one character who can be viewed as androgynous, be they male of female. I guess it's sort of just become a standard to have this type of character for reasons I'm not so sure of. However, they tend to have personalities or an overall appeal that resonates with viewers/readers in my opinion because they're 'different' and give off a unique vibe unlike all the other characters.

Not sure if that made sense. It's sort of hard to explain this.

nanatsu no taizai ain't about that shit.

Well when you look back at the origins of anime, Dr. Osamu Tezuka-san (1928-1989), was influenced by Bambi. And Bambi had those really wide eyes, and that's where you get the big eyes from. But it's mostly the art style the artists draws in and besides anime characters are just meant to look feminine just for the eyes being too big.
