What can he do against a FTG though? No sensing, no body movement enhancements to keep up, IMO he would just get blitzed by either Minato or Tobirama.

Edit: I still love Hiruzen and realise that him in his prime would be mad but he has an obvious weakness against speed.

But it didn't even do that. Minato's summoning was doomed to fail regardless, because his soul was in the Shinigami.

He was analyzing it. Remember Sasuke said the Hokages are edo so they can do dangerous stuff without the fear of being killed.

Hiruzen simply stopped the coffin from appearing. He even states it. Even if he didn't, the coffin would just appear and not open because Minato' soul was in the RDS.
