[Theory] Why Prime Hanzo was frightened of Konoha.

in the second war, the sanin were teens. they hadnt reached their prime yet.

in the third one, however, they survived all the battle fields and maybe battled hanzo to a draw if not beat him. But in their prime, they are much more stronger than hanzo

Hanzo was strong, yes, but the land of fire(Hi) and Konoha had at that time the strongest military force of all nations-if I remember correctly. Actually, Konoha has even now the strongest clans and individuals.
For Hanzo to declare war on his own against Konoha would mean to take on the Uchiha, Hyūga and the Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi.

Well not only Hiruzen...wasn't Sakumo Hatate active around that time? He has hype of being legendary. Then he had Danzo to worry about if they hadn't formed their alliance yet...The Uchiha clan were alive in the village in full force (actually the members of Hiruzen's generation who the second Hokage played diversion against the Kinkaku force should be active, if they survived)...Uzumaki Mito Might have still been active around that era...Dan was active during that time, he was aiming for Hokage so he might have been strong(Tsunade was called one of the legendary 3 while trying to revive him, she got said tittle from facing Hanzo)

basically, there probably were a lot of strong guys Hanzo had to worry about...also his forces might have been small compared to one of the big five villages

Also beating the Sannin...they seem to have been young, around late teens,early twenties...their main summons were still young too, so they may not have had access to boss summoning and Jiraiya most likely didn't have his Sage Mode, Tsunade no forehead seal, and Oro probably hadn't begun experimenting on himself yet.
