I find it very unlikely that Kishimoto would give Obito a petty reason such as Rin's death. Surely, he didn't build him up just so his purpose would be that biddy. It was supposed to show something much more. Although I dislike the repeated emphasize on Rin itself, that's actually pretty much the only reason I find people disliking Obito.

I'll simply explain it slowly for the members who cannot comprehend a simple manga. And before you ask, No this isn't me trying to convert you to obitoism, I'm simply giving you my POV on this matter. Please read before you post.

I don't think there was anything which suggested he was hated by his clan. His sharingan hadn't activated yet and that concerned him but seeing that it wasn't itself suggests otherwise. If he was hated- he might have developed it already due to anger at the situation. He seemed like happy go lucky child till the war.

I do agree about Obito getting overwhelmed in war but I differ on explanation a bit. He got hurt and handicapped severely, almost died, was saved but in the care of another hateful plotter and an attached Zetsu who was at Madara's bidding. Then he tries to go back and watches his first crush die, immediately followed by MS powers being awakened. Him losing control completely and finding himself in pool of blood with horrible slaughter around him- caused by himself. He was not prepared for any of it and every change in his situation was all to sudden for him without the usual support system.

He didn't only hate losing Rin for forever in his genjutsu world not only she would be alive but others too. Nothing happened! His dream is that it was all a dream. He didn't get handicapped and turned into crazy killer either. He wants to run away from the reality and thinks it's best for everyone. Hence Naruto's words to him- that he could dream on his own.

that was a great explanation kingflawz, it really is sad to see how many people are upset that Obito isnt just magically evil or power hungry or something stupid like alot of villains are. They are upset that a character has depth and relatable human emotions? This villain is a realistic villain....he has suffered and experienced pain allot couldn't imagine and its perfectly understandable that hes overacting. Obito is the exact version of Naruto, what would have happened if Naruto would have just went wrong somewhere..anywhere and he would have been just like Obito. Vice versa of course, if Obito wouldnt have died or if he would have found a way back to the village somehow, his life could have been very different. He could have had a life with Rin, and protected her always and had his best friend and them help watch over sensei's little Naruto and stuff.

Based on the fact that kishi made naruto and obito exact parralels, We can conclude that he was looked down upon, not exactly hated but no one took him seriously and etc.

Evidence of this was the fact that Obito also did not know his parents which is eerly similar to naruto and the fact that even kakashi looked down upon obito, same deal with sasuke and naruto.

When he joined up with his team, They showed compassion that he never got, instantly bonding with them and them becoming precious to him.

and yes agreed completely. Obito's character goes beyond a simple power hungry villain who wants to see the world burn.
