i thought it was pretty obvious that MS is awakened through visually witnessing trauma then a change occurs in the brain,2 doujutsu and susanoo are the result, amaterasu is cast through the eye, tsukuyomi is cast through the eye, so obviously they require an eyeball, but susanoo has nothing to do with eyes whatsoever, except getting the visual trauma to cause a change in the brain after that it's done.

Hearing something bad or whatever is nothing you have to witness the trauma fully to go nuts.
