I believe that Madara had unlocked Rinnegan before his death is because after he had implanted Hashirama's cells, he hadn't had a near-death experience until right when he was old and on the verge of death, so, like the Sharingan.

Thoughts? Sorry in advance if this thread has been made already. Discuss.

Agreed, that would explain of Madara mentioning he only awakened it at the end of his natural life.

the progression of the eyes has always been through emotions maybe it has something do to with resolve or acceptance ?

It's like when you have a gas bubble stuck in your belly. You struggle to fart for a while and then you get it out of your system. Similar happened with Madara and Rinnegan, it's just that it took him decades to 'fart'.

Based of emotions are how the eyes unlocked im guessing he had nothin left till he started seeing his life b4 hes eyes at old age, bc nagato activated them after the he saw death of the people he cared 4 so madara probably had no reasons till old age

Maybe it takes time or madara dint know a shortcut to awaken it so he waited for its natural progression
