I guess I owe an explanation of my opinion to why Madara is the best character for me:
First of all,I think that the moment we got to analyse his childhood, I felt like reading a real life description of that WW2 books. You could understand his side. You could feel his agony and apprehension. In his "first" scene you could see his struggle to improve his mental and physical abilities.
He was always more level headed than Hashirama: he lost faster his brothers and could give good advices on how to deal with these great losses. Btw, his father who was bout 40 years that time, trusted his judgement whether to fight or not.
Madara initially had 3 brothers and his younger brother Izuna. His 3 brothers died during the war between the Senju and Uchiha, leaving Madara with only Izuna. Like Hashirama, Madara then wanted to protect his little brother at all costs.
He had a big grudge even before Izuna died , and it surprising, because Hashirama could have expressed those feelings, but he did not. And by the way, one could say his feelings here go further than just war trauma, I could say it was already some twisted feeling already working inside of him - and here goes my personal opinion: who knows if some family member already blamed him for not being strong enough?
This lead Madara to eventually want to start a village with Hashirama that would be a place of peace for his little brother to grow up in. But sometimes I guess he never wanted a village. Perharps he just wanted to the Uchiha to not be persecuted anymore!
After Izuna's death, Madara didn't have a person whom he could have sit and told all about Izuna and Hashirama. Or the person would use all of this against him - Sasuke and Obito - or they wouldn't care - Tobirama and Naruto.
The most strange thing is: if Sasuke teamed up with him, I guess we could have had some flashbacks about his personal life, and even his family.
I admire him: he fought since he was born to protect his family and clan (how brave and admirable is that?) and never wavers!
Way to go Madara!!!!
