Itachi has to be one of the most influential anime characters of all time and this is why.
When we first met Itachi he was very mysterious and all we knew about him was that he was 1. Sasuke's brother 2. A missing ninja 3. A criminal and 4. A member of some type of organization that we later find out to be the most dangerous. Once he made his first appearance on the show/manga - we weren’t given much more insight about him, because he didn’t talk much. The only real crucial thing we received was from Sasuke with his flashback of the Uchiha Massacre. Since this was the first time we were shown the massacre by Kishimoto himself and we didn’t think nothing less of Itachi after that except that he was a straight badass with a no shits given, **** yo feelings, who do you think you are, I am your God type of attitude. Kisame - which at first seemed more stronger than Itachi followed his every command with no hesitation and got us thinking why is he following someone that hardly did anything impressive throughout Kurenai’s fight besides turning her genjutsu against her.
Then after Sasuke’s flashback we didn’t think twice about ****ing with Itachi, he might as well been everyone’s favorite villain possibly surpassing Orochimaru and Gaara. Itachi fought Sasuke relatively with ease, so we didn’t get to see much of his arsenal only the Mangekyou Sharingan and Amaterasu at the end. Itachi left us with so much mystery on who the hell just showed up, whooped 3 high level Jounin, the last surviving Uchiha in the Hidden Leaf Village and left like nothing. 90% of the Naruto fanbase kept wanting more through the Tsunade retrieval arc, Sasuke retrieval arc and at the end of show. The only little bit of more backstory we got for Itachi was Sasuke’s flashback during his fight with Naruto at the Valley of the End. We got to see just how loving, caring, compassionate and hardworking he was to his family and friends and again, left wondering why the hell he actually massacred his own damn people. This was left unsolved for hundreds of episodes/chapters, but at least we got to see him a little bit more throughout Shippuden.
With Itachi appearing here and there in Part II we started to get more of a picture on who and what his character was although by that time, everything in the Naruto world was getting hectic with Pain finally being revealed, Jiraiya dying, Naruto training at Mt. Myoboku/mastering Rasenshuriken and 2 more Akatsuki’s down (Hidan and Kakuzu) then the time finally came.. Sasuke fought Itachi for the last time and my god.. that fight was truly amazing. The animation. The dialogue. The fight scenes. The powerups. That random Orochimaru comeback. It was simply marvelous, but.. OH NO.. you were just at the tip of the iceberg with Itachi. Just when you thought you finally knew who and what Itachi stood for became nothing.
The biggest revelation of all time in Naruto got blasted right on our face (I don’t count Zetsu, because we hardly saw him anyway). Everyone was either going crazy, confused or just amazed on what Obito told us about Itachi. No one possibly could have seen that coming, perhaps trolls or people who wanted attention were saying they knew it all along, but I don’t believe them for a second. After that moment forward no one saw Itachi as some selfish mass murderer/terrorist. Everything he did was to help his brother become stronger and protect the leaf village but at the same time everything felt so unreal that I had to go back and reread all the chapter containing Itachi, flashbacks or not. Nothing was ever the same again I felt like Itachi was just too good. Hundreds of chapters passed with only a few mentions of Itachi here and there came, never would I have thought he would be revived by Kabuto via Edo Tensei. I became so happy, because we could finally confirm what he did was either true or false and to my expectations I was right and never felt better. He ****ing fodderized Sage Kabuto and undid the Edo Tensei - yet again saving ****ing thousands of lives for the SECOND TIME. I remember flipping my laptop over, because how good his character is/was. Itachi might as well stand on a damn pedestal while doing shit. Even Hashirama - the Godfather of Shinobi - gave Itachi a
