the guys who died in the war helped along by itachis aid of akatsuki in obtaining the living nukes. plus the peopel who died because he wasnt man enough to kill orochimaru

Back then when the clan left Madara behind, he could have come back and killed them all but he didn't because he still had feelings for the clan.
