Anyway, basically, few people I've met define beauty as intrinsic. I would say the majority of people only understand beauty based on comparing oneself to others. Oftentimes racial pride in appearance and culture is in opposition to other races and cultures. It's a mass of insecurity. It's unfortunate.

Ehhh it wasn't a totally serious post but I do agree with Shelke that oftentimes if people are constantly talking about how proud of their kids they are, they are feeling some kind of insecurity/desire to measure up to other families.

Really, I don't see a reason to constantly be talking about pride unless there's something that's diminishing your sense of pride.

What does building confidence in your children have anything to do with cultural displays? Do people state that, "kid, you we are so proud of you because you are white?" Or, "Thank goodness you were born an Asian, otherwise, I was going to put you (and your mom) up for adoption?"

It can be any exaggerated outward display of culture. Culture is a pretty broad term, but to narrow it down, once can think of religion, race, traditions, dogmas etc. to name a few.
