I'm not sure if a tailed beast requires some form of food or nourishment of any kind to survive, but if they do not I fail to see why this creature would do anything, "good" or "bad".

Lacking natural predators and the need for food/water etc, should negate any development of basic animal instincts for survival, combine that with a lack of feelings or ideals and you literally have a creature with no wants, needs or more importantly motivation.

Without any form of motivation or stimulus, it should in effect lack any sort of driving force. The ten tails should by all accounts just sit there and do nothing, because it wouldn't NEED to do anything or WANT to do anything for that matter, it should simply be.

What are your takes on the matter?

Well, It'd be a pretty boring fight if the Jubii would just sit there soing nothing :|
It's also supposed to pretty much represent the hatred in this world I think (at least something like that)

It's bad because Kishi says so.

Yes, it would be boring if it sat there and didn't do anything, but with the information presented to me in the manga, it doesn't make sense to me.

It's bad because Kishi says so.

No he doesn't, and he's not bad.
He's just a natural phenomenon. To understand why he does what he does you need to understand chakra and well only Kishi understands it fully so it's hard to tell why the juubi does what he does

I take it to mean that his chakra was so foul, or naturally evil that it brought despair to the world. While not bad in essence, it's bad for people because nobody wants to be in despair. haha

I just believe that the 10 tails would be considered more of a menacing threat if Kishi didn't write himself into a corner.

Throughout the manga the concept of yin and yang or a sense of balance has always been present. Whether the creature was split or one being, the same energy/chakra/power remains constant in the world, it being together now should have no real effect on the natural balance of things.

read this page. tobi says "did i give the juubi too much consciousness". this implies they are controlling it and its personality is not fully there...

For me to view it as a menacing threat, it has to want or need something, ANYTHING. With the information given so far, I can not view this thing as the terrible monster that we've been led to believe it is.

It shouldn't get angry, shouldn't feel pain, why would it do anything? As a character in the series, it might as well be a physical manifestation of the planet itself.

What I mean by that is that it does in effect cause despair to people via floods, earthquakes, tornadoes etc, however its effects are part of nature and the natural order of things.

You may not like a rainy day, however rainy days are necessary in the order and balance of all living things.

Juubi has been hyped to have created the narutoverse and this chapter supports it by saying that the Juubi has the same enery as the water and earth of their world.

The natural energy in the world is the release of energy by hate, that is why the juubi is evil. The people all in narutoverse all hate each other, even in the sages day i bet there was war and hate but with simple weapons, the sage created ninjutsu, etc. in order to attain peace.. but it only made it worse. I think this is why the juubi is evil, if there was no hate and the world was a fantasy world like naruto wants and is trying to make through everyone understanding each other while loving and respecting each other. I think if it was like this the juubi wouldn't be evil because that wouldn't be the natural chakra of the world. So what i'm saying is that basically they give the energy out into the world because of natural hate, so the world is a hateful chakra atmosphere and the juubi is natural chakra of the world... aka the juubi is then evil.

So i think naruto will erase the evil, its been hinted at already since he erased his.. this affected kurama too. Now imagine on a worldwide scale/juubi. See how things build up like that, I think its foreshadowing. But I leave it up to Kishi.. I don't think he will disappoint.

I think we will eventually find out why. My guess is Naruto is eventually going to find a way to communicate with the Juubi or something.

Probably humans tried to use it through its entire life, so that is the reason. And now it is being used yet again
