Funny, the way I remember it Fodbito didn't have the balls to face Itachi even with an entire team of Kage level shinobi behind him. He had to target Itachi's baby brother instead. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Are you saying that stopping the Akatasuki from capturing Naruto as a child was not a hindrance? As far as giving intelligence goes, it's a fair assumption that Itachi was passing info to Jiraiya who was unaware that it was coming form Itachi.
