Why is Karin an Uzumaki?

I always suspected that she was made an Uzumaki as an example of how the clan is spread out and no longer united. She's there for the Uzumaki presence. Just one of those random Uzumaki floating around in the world.

Maybe, though I do find it kind of sad that the only Uzumakis Naruto has come in contact with have been enemies. He grew up without a family or a clan, so these scattered members of his clan might mean something later down the story line. Or maybe I just read too much fanfiction.
