I think it's because they're in the first (and possibly second) stage(s) of grief. I'm not a fortune teller but I predict that in time Naruto fans will eventually accept it. Here's a breakdown of how they'll take the news in stages.

Stage 1: "He's not dead! He's in another dimension!"
Stage 2: "You're an idiot! Troll! You make me so mad!"
Stage 3: "He can be edo/rinnei tensei'd, right? Please writers!"
Stage 4: "Why, Naruto? I thought you'd bring world peace...I'm so sad at how this series turned out."
Stage 5: "Oh well, we have Boruto."

On another note, Kawaki doesn't say he's dead, but hints at it. Until there's solid proof then I don't really care physically. If Naruto dies I'll be sad, although I won't really care about it after that day.

Still the manga is too lighthearted for Naruto to die and not come back, I mean look at Bobito :lol
