I would say it was madaras arrogance and ignorance that led to his demise dont you think? Like when he said that he taught obito how to manipulate people and saying isnt it farfetched to think that he didnt manipulate obito too. So it shouldnt be farfetched to madara for him to think he was also being manipulated.
