Why is Hiruzen so underestimated/hated in the base?

He's not under rated. People just over rate him IMO, Hiruzen is one of my favourite characters but people these days just keep saying he's stronger than Minato and Hashirama. This just annoys people which leads to the Hiruzen haste. It really is quite sad.

Hiruzen is one of the best, not on everyone's top 10 but you cant deny he is one of the best. He was trained under the Senju siblings and fought them edo and was capable of sealing them both in the reaper's death seal. Whoever underrates the professor is just plane idiot.

I'm pretty sure everyone would agree that Hiruzen is a boss. The problem is though, that people want to overrate him and say he owns Minato and Itachi, which isn't true. U_U

Well, he is being viewed as the weakest hokage, which makes people think he is "weak", I mean there are 5 of them of course they should not be on a linear power scale, that does not mean he is weak.
He is not hated, he is just viewed as somewhat weak.

I don't think he's hated. He's underestimated because we haven't seen any feats from him. His one fight was back in Part I (so the power scales were lower), and he had to use the RDS. He wasn't even powerful enough to pull out Orochimaru's soul, having to settle for just his arms.

We've never seen Prime Hiruzen, so many people underestimate him. Despite his hype, he hasn't provided any feats. Hashirama beat Madara and Kurama and Minato beat Obito and Kurama. We don't have any feats from Tobirama either, but, let's face it, he's a badass.

Oh, and he beat Izuna, who had the MS, and was supposedly about on par with MS Madara.

And now even though he is on the battlefield, people still call him fodder, yet the only moved he has used thus far is the 4 red sun tech.

Haters will always hate, until he shows a OP technique and then everyone will try to hop on his banwagon, like they loved him all along.

Also i don't see why people say "his fans", Hiruzen has a extremely small fanbase and is rarely overrated to the extent where people call him Lord/God/Solo king/Saying he defeats the juubi or the sage and so on.

Hiruzens small fanbase only makes noise when clueless people post threads about him.

Probably because we've only seen as an old man fighting all weak-like and because everyone in the anime who knew how he was back in the day says he has weakened and not 'himself'

Simple, because people saw OLD MAN Hiruzen almost lose to Orochimaru, and they forgot that some of their grandpa cannot move at that age. Though he was old and Oro expected an easy win, he still lost to him.

Because people become personally offended whenever the pride of their favorite character is called into question. In this case, when Hiruzen's hype started to challenge Hashirama and Minato, all bets were off.

If anything, blame Kishimoto. He could easily decide to turn Hiruzen into a powerhouse after all the hype he's received and his lineage, but instead wants to keep him on the sidelines because he doesn't exactly fit in plot-wise anymore.

People are just jealous of his amazing powers... Hashirama and the Sage of Six Paths are just conformists! Hiruzen was the God of Shinobi before it was cool.

He also has the potential to be an amazingly powerful Kage, but lacks any feats... So I guess there was probably a time when Hiruzen fans trolled the forums like Itachi fans do now.. And that's why people hate him.
