Everyone assumes the sage of six paths is strong please do realize that.
Kakakashi and even past hokages couldn't believe how strong and that a power like narutos madaras etc exists.
But the sage of six paths is strong so why assume that?

Seriously, The sage had the six paths: (actually seven)
The Deva Path, which allows one to manipulate both attractive and repulsive forces.
The Asura Path, which grants the user mechanised limbs, weaponry and armour.
The Human Path, which gives the ability to remove a soul and so, read a person's mind.
The Animal Path, which lets the user summon a wide variety of creatures
The Preta Path, which can absorb all forms of chakra, including most ninjutsu.
The Naraka Path, through which one can summon and control the King of Hell.
The Outer Path, which rules over both life and death.

He had absolute full power and control over Rinnegan unlike Nagato.
He created the moon on is deathbed, he was able to defeat and seal the juubi (the strongest bjuu) inside himself without risking his life, creating the elements, truely understanding chakra and made the the tailed beasts therfore being able to control them. Not sure if he's alive but if he is then the tailed beasts would probably want to go back to him. There is so much more but I can't be bothered.
