As for the OP, a definite 33% of Americans are obese. Obese is a term that means abnormally-high in bodyfat percentage, because you can be "overweight", but still have a lean body.

Our junkfood companies know this and they specifically target us for this reason. Red is an appetite stimulant and yellow is a happy color for social interactions. Look around all your fast food restaurants and junkfood products. Lots of Red and Yellow, right? They are psychologically and physiologically hooking you with colors and salts.

Americans aren't fat. The rest of the world is just scrawny.
For real though I think it's the portions and the fact that most Americans have a very high protein diet but the fatties don't workout. So someone that would just be husky in Europe would end up fat in America. We have an abundance of red meat for cheap. When I went to Germany a burger cost me $9 and it was mediocre at best. In America you get a whopper for half that and it tastes better.
